"I Guess The Lord Must Be In New York City" - Harry Nilsson (1969) I say goodbye to all my sorrows And by tomorrow I'll be on my way I guess the lord must be in New York City I'm so tired of getting nowhere Seein' my prayers going unanswered I guess the lord must be in New York City Well here I am Lord Knocking on your back door Ain't it wonderful to be Where I've always wanted to be For the first time I'll be free In New York City I say goodbye to all my sorrows And by tomorrow I'll be on my way I guess the lord must be in New York City I'm so tired of getting nowhere Seein' my prayers going unanswered I guess the lord must be in New York City Well here I am Lord Knocking on your back door Ain't it wonderful to be Where I've always wanted to be For the first time I'll be free In New York City

I actually first heard this used in "You've Got Mail" a few years ago, and bought a Nilsson collection because of it.

One of Harry's best, though I've only heard it on the radio on a few occasions.

Good song from a very talented composer and singer who (like too many others) we lost too soon.

I actually first heard this used in "You've Got Mail" a few years ago, and bought a Nilsson collection because of it. Well, Pete, it looks like that little innocuous Chick Flick did you some good the same way it did me some good. I saw it on a plane a few years ago and it included a version of the song "Dream" by Roy Orbison. I'd never heard Roy do that song before, and it caused me to go out searching for some more obscure Roy songs - and it brought my appreciation of Roys vocal range and talent to a new level. So - thank you - You've Got Mail.

This is one of my most favorite songs! I know a lot of people who were introduced to it from You've Got Mail, and I'm happy to see the tune get some recognition.
