The song reached #15 on the billboard charts in 1978. It was the highest charting song of David's solo recordings. It, of course is also the title song from the film starring Richard Dreyfuss.
I rediscovered the tune after talking with my oldest brother recently who watched the movie on TV a few weeks ago.I forgot just what a great tune it is. Rhino included it on Volume 21 of their "Have a Nice Day" series.

I remember it very well, Ken! In fact I just heard it last week when I was playing my Best of David Gates and Bread CD.
Very catchy tune.

Oh yeah - call me a sap for ballads. I also have the collection of "Have a Nice Day." Mine ends at vol# 22. I know there's more but hard to find here (Ontario).

Great choice, Ken. I've loved it ever since it was current, and have a reissue 45 with Took the Last Train on the flip, also a great song.

I loved that song back then...it's been years since I've heard it. I should check it out again!
