Yeah, my mom had the 45, so when "Caribbean Queen" came out, I was like, "You mean, THAT Billy Ocean?" ;D

I first heard the song on a K-Tel album - Hit Machine, I believe. This was in 1986 or 1987, right around the time a lot of Billy's hits were getting played on the radio. It kind of surprised me at the time, as I must have missed hearing it in '76, and didn't realize Billy had been recording that many years.
Good song - another one that would make an interesting entry on my blog.

Nice to see some recent footage of Richie; he's aging very well and still sounds great. Kind Woman is a superb song. 1st Dawn, Sorry to take so long to answer this. 2nd, I've always considered this the Best Buffalo Springfield Song. Kind Woman would probably rank somewhere in my top 20 all time. Absolutely an awesome song. And yes Richie has aged very well. We should all look that well at his age.

Funny song Smitty, but I could never like it. It conj ours up to many bad memories of beets & Brussels Sprouts (ick). I'll see your Jolly Green Giant, and raise you.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVNXx2SgpZcHi Alan, Wow, that's a real "blast from the past!" I discovered the song courtesy of Ktel's 22 Fantastic Hits!

Here's another lost oldie, although I find it difficult to believe a song that rose to #3 on the charts is somehow lost, this seems to be. I always thought it was a pretty cool song back in 1971. Anyway, enjoy Charlie Brown in the video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-r3ZQjIlNI&NR=1Excellent song. I also really like Rare Earth's version.

To commemorate the 31st anniversary of Terry Kath's passing: Dialogue--Chicago The clip is from Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve 1975. I chose it because not only was the band firing on all cylinders, but Terry looks happy and healthy(not to mention damn good in that tux!) RIP, Terry.

I always looked forward to the Rockin' Eve years ago, but the past several years have been really disappointing. I tuned into this past one to see the ball drop, but didn't watch much more of it. I don't know - maybe I'm just showing my age, but it seems like the quality of the musicians that they've had on the recent shows hasn't been nearly as good as it was back in the day.

I think the fact that American Idol chucklehead Ryan Seacrest has taken over the broadcast doesn't help much either.

I don't know how much influence Ryan has on the choice of the musicians, but the whole "feel" of the program has seemed very skewed to a very young demographic in recent years. It seemed like when Dick Clark was in charge of the broadcast, they made more of an attempt to appeal to a wider range of ages.

Hi Dawn, Watching "Rockin' Eve" was a New Years tradition for me and my family for years.I 'm showing my age as well, this year I was at my brother's house and he turned it on, so we could watch the ball drop. After that we were all discussing / complaining how bad the performers were and reminisced how much better the show was back in the 70's and 80's lol

In my opinion, some of the 1990's broadcasts were just as stellar. I still remember watching the 20th anniversary of Rockin' New Years Eve back in 1994, I think? (It may have been '93 too, I don't quite know) That year, they flashed back to clips of past performances mixed with the current ones. That was a show that was well done, and since I was 12/13 at the time, was one of the first RNE shows that I stayed up to watch the whole thing!
I think part of the magic of the celebration was lost when Dick Clark suffered that stroke. I mean, it's great that he still comes on to make an appearance, and he has improved a lot over recent years. It's just sad to watch.
