Or Franke & The Knockouts, period? I can't recall the chart position it hit, but I discovered this one on an aircheck of KLTK "K-Lite 107.5" from March of 1985. I think they had one other minor hit then disappeared. Edit: A sample can be found here: www.frankeandtheknockouts.com/Discography.htm

Oh absolutely!
This one was really popular at the roller rink, and I just love it.
I have it on the "Like Omigod It's The 80's Pop Culture Box (Totally)", and everytime it comes on, I'm singing in the car at the top of my lungs....... ;D
Good pick, Daniel!
Oh - Nelson wanted me to ask you if you're buried under the fluffy white stuff yet.

I sure do! A great track. I included it on a mix CD a few years ago, and remember recording it off the radio when it was current. It reached #10 on the billboard charts in 1981.

Ah, so it seems the track was more popular outside of the Central Valley of California, LOL. There, I never heard it on KBOS or Magic 104, the 2 top 40 stations I listened to at the time. (Railyn, I should have figured you would have heard of that song, since you are the only the second living person I have met that has heard of the Blow Monkeys!!!) Oooh, don't even speak to me about that! It took me 2 hours to get home today, it usually takes 20 minutes. Grrrrrr!

Streamripper on Winamp is fantastic for collecting them. I have lots. Sorry about the snow. It's one thing I don't miss about living out there. Think they plowed the lot at Rolling Acres yet? And stay out of the parking lot at Randall Park - the snow will fill the craters and you might lose your car..... ;D And at least it will be gone by the time we get out there......

With all the snow we've gotten in the past 24 hours, Rolling Acres is probably buried by now. And the other day I looked at the Randall Park parking lot on satellite imagery. It looks like the surface of the moon!

I remember the song fairly well. Not a bad song at all. I even remember the music video (which is really strange for me, seeing I never watch music videos!) I think it revolved around the boxing (knockouts) theme as opposed to sweetheart. It's the only thing that helps me remember the song was by Franke and the Knockouts as opposed to Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Oh yes! I remember this got tons of radio play where I lived in the spring of '81. It's always been a huge fave of mine, and their other two songs, You're My Girl and Without You, are good as well. I found that Sweetheart Collection CD in a music store for $1, and I snapped it up.

A dollar? Sometimes you get lucky in those dollar bins! (I love looking through the dollar clearance section at Half Price Books!) The copy I have is a transfer from my LP. Sounds good, though.

Oh yeah, I totally loved this song when I was in the sixth grade. I was JUST reminiscing over it a few months back. Here's a flashback for ya....in all its glory. The video that defined Franke and his knockout lovin' ways: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5E7y-48aer4

Man, I remember that tune when it was a big hit on American Top 40 in 1981! But I hadn't seen the video until today. This was back when music videos were shot relatively cheaply. Frankie & the Knockouts recorded for the Millennium label. I believe that label was owned by MCA, but it never had any breakout acts. Just a few one or two hit wonders. This explains why the label had the shelf life of the half & half that I add to my coffee.

Yeah, I think that label might've had more success on the country chart, but I'm not sure. It seemed to be an "afterthought" to it's corporate sibling.
