Been listening to lots of earlier 70's music recently, and I thought of this cool topic.
Others to consider: Long lonesome highway-Michael Parks One tin soldier-Original Caste Jennifer Tomkins-Street People Do what you wanna do-Five Flights Up When Julie comes around-Cuff Links Mighty Joe-Shocking Blue Miss America, And the grass won't pay no mind-Mark Lindsay
Keep in mind, these are "lesser known" artists!
My choice: Mashmakhan.

All good songs, my choice, Frijid Pink's House of the Rising Sun

I voted for "Joanne"--even though that's my mother-in-law's name. Actually, what I would like to see on the "Have a Nice Day" series is the LONG versions of ANY song that has a 45 edit! I don't have any of those CD's yet, but one day I was in a store and they had one of them playing--it was from the mid to late '70s and there were a lot of live tracks, and they were all shortened versions! That made me so mad!

Other for One Tin Soldier by the Original Caste (also by Coven).

SO many good ones listed, but I had to go with "Other" for Five Flights Up, because as far as I know, it's never been available on CD anywhere! I LOVE the song, but only have a vinyl 45 of somewhat poor quality.
Crow and Frijid Pink were obvious omissions that should have been included. Michael Nesmith should have been included, as well as "Mississippi" by John Philips.
I've never seen the Original Caste on CD, but it's on the same label (T-A) as Five Flights Up, so I don't know who owns the licenses to that stuff..
Street People I have on a bubblegum comp. And Mashmakhan I have on a Sony "Rock Artifacts" collection. But it would have been nice for both to have been on "Nice Day" as well.
"Long Lonesome Highway" and "Song Of Joy" I have 45's of but never cared much for either..
My feeling is that Rhino could have either made more volumes, or at least put 16-20 songs on each, instead of 10-12.

I need to change my previous statement in this thread: Apparently that CD I heard in a music store was not one of the "Nice Day" series (after doing research into the "Nice Day" series, I figured this out--duh! ). But apparently the "Nice Day" series has a lot of 45 edits too! I HATE only hearing half of a song (or even missing a few seconds of it)!!!!!! As I've said before, it makes me sooooo mad (thanks for letting me vent *lol*).

I went with Mashmakhan also, with Frijid Pink a close second.

I too am throwing my vote for the Five Flights Up tune. I remember randomingly hearing this a couple of years ago on the 70s radio station we have here and being really excited because I hadn't heard it since I was a kid.

Another one that should have been on the series is "Big Yellow Taxi" by The Neighborhood

Digging up another old thread because I have a question:
Is "Viva Tirado" on any of the "Have a Nice Day" CD's?

Digging up another old thread because I have a question: Is "Viva Tirado" on any of the "Have a Nice Day" CD's? Laura, "Viva Tirado" by El Chicano is on one of the "Soul Hits of the 70's: Didn't It Blow Your Mind" CD's. It's like a "sister" series to "Have A Nice Day". I think most of them have gone out of print.

Thanks for the info, Pete!
BTW, I just recently got Gerald Wilson's original big-band jazz version of "Viva Tirado" from the '60s, and it's EVEN BETTER than El Chicano's version IMHO. It's on his "The Artist Selects" CD. ("The Artist Selects" is a series of CD's with different jazz musicians, where the artist chooses what songs go on the CD and comments on them in the liner notes.) It's an excellent CD and I've been listening to it A LOT this week!
