Others to consider:
Crazy mama-J.J. Cale Gone-Joey Heatherton An American trilogy-Mickey Newbury Loving you just crossed my mind-Sam Neely Geronimo's Cadillac-Michael Murphey Mister can't you see-Buffy Sainte-Marie What am I crying for-Classics IV Easy livin-Uriah Heep Daisy Mae-Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds I'm coming home-Stories Those were the days-Carroll O'Connor & Jean Stapleton No-Bulldog We're on our way-Chris Hodge Love me, love me love-Frank Mills In heaven there is no beer-Clean Living (full album outro) You are the one-Sugar Bears Life and breath-Climax
I do have April Wine on a Dick Bartley compilation CD, but it woulda sounded GREAT here for Rhino's series too. And that was my pick, edging out Mott, Hamilton JF & Reynolds, Chris Hodge and the Sugar Bears.

Covention '72 was funny the first few times, and Amazing Grace is one of my wife's favorites, but I choose Sunny Days.

It was a tough choice--so many good ones here--but I picked "Convention '72". I love recordings like that. I like a lot of April Wine's stuff, but I don't know the song that was listed here. Same with the Classics IV.

Hey buddy Some terrific tunes here and once again a toss up, this time between Lighthouse and April Wine . Why did there have to be so many great songs back then ?? I've decided to go with Sunny Days!

Several here that have NEVER seen CD release, AFAIK. Among them Think, Delegates, and Sam Neely. But I'm going with one I REALLY wanted to see on CD, "What Am I Crying For?" by Classics IV.
Easy Livin' and All The Young Dudes would have been nice, as well as April Wine. But I have them on other CD's.

Hey Pete:) A question - Has No by Bulldog ever been released on CD ? - It's not really one of my faves but I do remember it being on a Ktel 8 track my brother had when I was a kid.

Hi Ken, I'm not familiar with the song myself, but I know that K-tel albums had different tracks in Canada than in the U.S. So maybe it was just a Canadian hit.

Iwent with Other for American Trilogy by Mickey Newbury. Beats the Elvis version by a country mile. (sorry, Adam)

I hate when people say something is best without knowing the other side of the coin-but in this case, I DON'T know the other side of the coin and I STILL say Elvis' is best! (Never even saw your comment until today) My argument is based on my feeling that Mickey seemed to sing it more as a history of three different views, whereas Elvis did it as a show piece. In Mickey's version there is the white southern viewpoint ("Dixie"), the Union viewpoint ("Battle Hymn of the Republic ") and the black slave viewpoint ("All My Trials"). Then.. it's over... there's nothing left to say. Elvis goes back to another chorus of Glory Glory Halleluyah with a big rousing finish. I don't think that was appropriate for the feeling that needed to be conveyed in the song. Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. ;D

For me, if a song is sung well, the could be singing about taxes and I don't care! LOL! I may have to do that post tomorrow!
