Ed mentioned Pet at one point. The rest are Dave's suggestions.
Gotta go with Frampton. If for nothing else that he was a kid and George was so impressed, he had Peter play lead on a record George was producing.
And I STILL don't know "jack" about Jack Scott....

I also vote for Pete - I think many forget just what an amazing guitar player he is.

Really struggled with this one. The Doobies, Frampton, Don McLean, & Joe Walsh are all favorites & Petula Clark was quite popular throughout the mid-60s. While I love the music Peter, Don, Joe, & Petula made, finally went with the Doobies. They were able to go from a great rocking band to a pretty good bluesy sounding band, and kept making the charts.

Went with Jerry Butler for his work both with The Impressions and his solo work. The "Iceman" was one of the top soul acts of the '60s. I may have MENTIONED Pet in conjunction with Dusty Springfield, but I really don't see Pet as deserving a slot. On the otherhand, I could have voted for The Doobies or frampton as among those who eventually deserve a slot. Don McLean would be a shoo in if they had a category for definitive songs.

Aw, now do I have to find our conversation where you mentioned Pet? I think it was something like, "If you put in Dusty, why not......" As far as McLean, I have a topic that will be in conjunction with what you mentioned....

As far as McLean, I have a topic that will be in conjunction with what you mentioned.... I probably did say something very similar to that. But Pet would be in the category of people who I think had a large enough following and contributed enough to the overall broad genre to merit a bid, even though I didn't particularly care for her music. (Kinda like ZZ Top, who I can take or leave.)

Went with Ed and said Jerry. LONG overdue. Solomon, Percy, but NOT Jerry? COME ON!
Frampton and the Doobies close behind.
