Anyone else miss this?
I sure do! ! !
They used to run some great old Rock and Roll flicks including "The Girl Can't Help It" which featured not only a great comedic turn by Jayne Mansfield, but Gene Vincent (NOT "Simmons"! I was tired yesterday) singing "Cinnamon sinner", Litttle Richard singing a song or two; also The Platters, and Julie London singing "Cry Me a River". (Any others?)
And there were those delightful "We've got to save the Dance!" movies. One of my favorites (Despite the fact I don't know the name) was the one that featured The Dovells singing "Bristol Stomp". (I have to tell ya, that lead singer could *boogie*, too!)
Not to mention those classic rock specials they used to show! (One featured most of the Phil Spector acts)
Anyway, if YOU have a favorite now missing AMPOP gem, please post it here. (Thank you)

I really miss this, too! Used to watch these movies all the time, and for a while there, I'd go to AMPop's official site. Too bad they shut that down, as well.
Nice to see 'em showing Fear Fridays, though! Hopefully they'll keep that going for a long time, and bring back AMPOP.
I forget the name of the movie, but it had a group of biker chicks who kept getting into cat fights with sorority girls or something close to that.. It's been a long time since I saw it, and I'm probably getting the movie all wrong. Something like Biker Chicks Gone Bad. *lol* Anyway, that was a favorite of mine.

The problem is, AMC has forgotten the concept of CLASSICS. Seems like most of the movies are like from the 80s! What is that all about??
Never seen The Girl Can't Help it, but I remember reading that is the movie the Beatles went and watched at John's house during the recording of Peppers or Abbey Road.
I would LOVE to see the Dovells singing The Bristol Stomp!!

(Any others?) I think Fats Domino sang Blue Monday in the movie also. I was young enough to go to the movie with my folks when it came out. I remember a scene in which Jayne Mansfield walks by several men causing various reactions, portrayed in what passed for special effects at the time. Particularly, she passes by a man who has his hand on a block of ice, and the ice instantaneously melts. A few days later, my father happened to mention that scene to a friend of his, who explained it by saying "maybe the man held his hand on the block of ice for an entire day, and they filmed it and then sped it up." My dad and I used to laugh about this and after that we used to answer any "how did they do that" question with "he held his hand on the block of ice for the entire day."

Not only that, but according to TV Guide their ratings have improved (HUH?!) since they discontinued their original-style programming. This I do NOT understand, and I have I trouble believing: I have spoken with people of ALL ages about this (Including my kids ages 19, 17, 1nd 16) and without exception they ALL say this channel is now not worth the trouble because you can see what they show now "anywhere". (I wish I could remember the name of that movie that had the Dovells in it; I know Chubby Checker was featured prominently in it.)

That guy's hand must've been *brr* cold! (And that's BEFORE the ice cube--if it took ALL DAY for it to melt in his hand! ROFL!)

I can't believe the ratings are up for AMC. Were people BEGGING them to add commercials? My favorite part of AMPOP were the song bits in-between features. And the 50s dating videos for young teens! And when they had "Hullaballoo".

[glow=red,2,300]They don't do this anymore? I used to watch it but I haven't in a while, so I didn't realize that. I don't watch much AMC anymore...like you guys said, it shows too much stuff that other channels have, and it was a lot better when it was commercial-free and with older movies. It's totally changed now.[/glow]
