I was thinking that with all the musical knowledge in our group, that there are very likely a number of us who write or have written music -- songs, lyrics, rock operas ;D - whatever. This board may be a good place to share our "works" with others. We're all amongst friends here, so no need to be embarrassed. So here's my idea: on this particular post, I'll just ask: Have you written any music/songs? Then on other posts, anyone who is willing could post some lyrics or other discussion about some of their own music and we could discuss it. So I'll answer my own question first: Yes I have written some songs. About 20 or 30, I think. Mainly in the '70s when I was playing guitar fairly regularly. I also wrote a spoof full-length rock opera once, using known songs and changing the words (like Weird Al, only not as good). I will post some of my song lyrics on this board from time to time and ask for your opinions and would like for you guys to do the same if you want to. But for now - just the question: Do YOU write the songs?

Yes, I have actually.. I have several songs going back to around 1994, but most of what I have written is rough around the edges. I'm really more of a music person than a lyrics person. Eventually I'll get my CD done, hopefully before I'm 50...

Great topic, H2! I'd definitely be interested in seeing your lyrics!
I haven't written any songs yet myself, although I've dabbled with songwriting a little. There have been times when a fragment of a melody or a chord structure has come to me, but I wasn't able to get it down on paper while it was still fresh. I'd like to pursue it more seriously one of these days, though.

Oh how I wish I did! There are so many songs that I think, "That sounds so simple, why can't I do that??" But if I were to write, it would be VERY simplistic. Where'd ya get the lightbulb icon??

I've tried to write songs a few times - I have no problem coming up with a melody but to come up with really good lyrics is tough:)

Judging from the insight in some of your comments on these boards would lead me to believe your writing would be pretty good.

Well, Adam, make that your goal. Write a simple song and send it to Martina. If she likes it, and wants to include it on her next album, you're in, Baby. ;D The lightbulb is up in the "Proboards Smileys" at the top of the "post reply" page, put there, I assume, by Dawn. But one strange thing - I was going to answer this post from home last night before I got busy, and the lightbulb icon wasn't there. Maybe some computers can't support it.

That must be the case-cuz I don't see the lightbulb one!

Thank you, H2! You know, it's kind of funny, I've had several of my professors as well as fellow students tell me that I'm a very good writer, but when it comes to lyrics, I have a very hard time. Maybe I'm just too critical..

I'm the opposite of Pete. I do lyrics fairly well, but not so much the music. I just don't have the resources for it. All of I've got is a crappy little keyboard that doesn't do much of anything.
Well, let's not say I do lyrics fairly well. Let's just say I write them. I'm really corny when it comes to lyrics and poems and such.

Corny or not, I bet the Clicksters would love to read some Lora Lyrics one of these days.
