I've been in a lousy mood. It's one of those Life Sucks deals - I don't believe in airing my laundry in public, so I've been dealing, but not much in the mood to be anywhere, so I've been absent. It's one of those "short" deals - short on money, short on patience, etc. I also don't believe on dragging people down with me.

But anyway, I was looking for some feel-good music the other day, and I have always loved this song, and it just kind of made me laugh and it's been stuck in my head ever since.

The version I prefer is not the original artist. I like both, but prefer this one more - I think it's in the presentation:

My Opinion In A Nushell: A fun song for anyone that has ever just wanted to throw their hands up and be done with it all and revert back to the carefree days of childhood. Growing up seems so cool when you're young, but it's not always so great when you get here.

Favorite Line: "How the hell did it get here so soon" - I used to laugh when people would tell me I'd be all grown up before I knew it........I'm not laughing now.

Interesting song. Not sure I get the hole in the TV set or the Open the medicine chest lines. Who did the song originally?

It certainly is true that we grow up (and old) way too soon. What's the saying? Youth is wasted on the young.

The song was originally done by Tom Waits, and it has an amusing video that Beavis and Butthead skewed once. I always think of Elvis when I hear that (especially the hole in the tv set thing) but I suppose the medicine chest could mean that adults tend to have a pill for everything, and I suppose that the tv comment could be a stab at how some adults plop in front of the tv for hours at a shot. It's kind of subjective. But a fun song for when you're just kind of sick of it all.

Things will improve. They already are. Just had to roll with it.....

I know exactly what you mean about growing up too fast. Now that I'm out in the real world, I feel like I've been slapped in the face. But I've always longed for adulthood and now I can't wait until I get to be about 35. That should give me enough time for my life to finally fall into place.

Thanks Lora - it's good to be back. Things have a way of working themselves out - I just forget to be patient. I'll be 35 sooner than I like to think about......

Tom's version just doesn't have the energy. Joey Ramone (rip) makes you feel the song. It's hard to explain. He just fits with the song better. Tom sings it a little slower, and with less energy.
