Well since it's Wednesday, it's time to crack out the Weird Al. I don't think I've done this one here before.

It's not his most imaginative song, but the original wasn't either, considering it's artist. Even so, I liked the original, and enjoy this parody.

My Opinion In A Nutshell: I was a little surprised George Harrison let him do this, but it's cute, so he probably didn't have much of a problem with it. From what I've seen, Harrison was quiet, but seemed to have a good sense of humor. This song started a big comeback for George, and the album it was on (Cloud Nine) was a great album.

Favorite Line: "I know if I put my mind to it
I know I could find a good rhyme here" (probably because it's the only part of the song that DOESN'T rhyme)

Two things here. For one, the song is actually SEVEN words long! But I guess that wouldn't flow right! LOL!

And two, he wouldn't have to get permission from George. He didn't write it. It's a cover of an old tune.

Yeah, it's seven. It's part of the joke. ;D Not everyone catches that.

As for permission, Al isn't required by law to get permission to do parodies, but he does as a matter of principle, and he shares the royalties with the original artist. If they say no, he doesn't do it. Prince turns him down repeatedly, and he honors that. That was why there was such a stink with Coolio. He says he said no, but has never had a problem cashing his royalty checks.

The title on the CD reads "This Song's Just Six Words Long." So I guess it is six words after all.

My 14 year old nephew is seriously into Wierd Al - for his birthday last year he wanted the DVD with all his videos, as well as the DVD of UHF (one of my fave bizarre comedies).

This isn't one of my all time fave Wierd Al cuts, but it is a fitting parody of the original.

Well, you're right, Triple J. I burned off my Al songs a few years back so I didn't have to haul all the cd's around, and I got the lyrics off of a well respected Al fansite, but I checked again, and you are right.

I always thought it was a joke.

Cloud Nine was an excellent album, and although I like the song, and it was a big hit for George, it got really overplayed. Anyway, I liked Al's send up. Kind of fits with the song.

Well your 14 year old nephew is seriously into my all-time favorite artist!! If he's never been to see Al live, you gotta take him. It may very well be the best show you've ever seen. I'm totally serious. His shows are not to be believed.

It's not one of Al's best parodies, but given the simplistic nature of the song, it works.

And UHF rocks! At least once a year, I loan that movie to someone who hadn't seen it before, and they usually run out and buy it. We searched and searched for a movie theater showing it when it came out, and finally found it at a drive-in, because it was out against Robocop and Batman (the first one with Michael Keaton) and no one else had it.

This was not one of George's strongest songs, but it was kinda catchy. The parody actually helps the catchiness.

Actually, naming their second album Volume 3 wasn't meant to be a joke. It was recorded after Roy's sudden death, and was named #3 in a tribute to Roy, to indicate that something was missing.

Hmmmm......I had always heard the joke thing. Although of course we have the rocking chair with Roy's pic in the End of the Line video from the first album and Vol 3 is dedicated to Lucky Wilbury.
