It's Underrated Song Week! (4/14)

It's no secret that my main "area" of music is 80's new wave. While many of the new wave groups enjoyed success in Europe, they may have had one or two minor hits here, and faded into obscurity. Many of my favorite songs from that time are by what are considered one-hit-wonders. Groups like Yaz, Alphaville, OMD, When In Rome, and the like.

Today I picked on of my favorites that had great success in England, and very limited success here in the US. In fact, I don't know that I ever heard any of their other songs. I had a devil of a time finding the lyrics, and I have no information as to author of song. The cd that I have the song on speaks volumes.

My Opinion In A Nutshell: A good song that you've probably never heard. Got very little airplay in our market. I rediscovered it a few years ago through a tv show, where it played in the background. Let me go" - unrequited love stinks. I've been on both ends.

My sis has a couple of the Living In Oblivion compilations, and the lyrics sounded familiar, so this may be one that she has.

Unrequited love sucks. Really bad.

Indeed it does. I've been on both ends of it, but this song reminds me of someone I once dated. I was really into him, but after a while, it became clear to me that I was just there for convenience. Every time I'd get up the nerve to say that I was done, he'd convince me that he was just going through a rough patch, and that he really did care. I finally gave up. This song always reminds me of him. Never had the courage to admit to me that it just wasn't working. Not to this day.

I listened to the clip - good song! I may have heard it at one point on one of the '80s TV music channels, but I'm not positive.

I've been on both ends of it too, and I agree, it's not a great situation either way. My senior year of high school was spoiled in part by a guy who couldn't make up his mind whether to be serious or not about our relationship, and I put up with it much longer than I should have.
