Well, I said I was going to start this Friday, but I have to wait until tomorrow to continue the Hollies tourney, so I am doing the first story today!
Many years ago, Stephen Stills and Bonnie Bramlett were at a bar or maybe a club hanging out. Apparently Elvis Costello was there, VERY drunk. He was being obnoxious and annoying. Bonnie was being polite and patient with him.
I guess he started saying there were no good American singers. At that point Stills smiled and rolled his eyes at Bonnie and got up and left.
Bonnie said, "What about Ray Charles, he is a great singer!"
Costello replied, "Ah, he ain't nuthin' but a blind n#gger!"
At which point Bonnie decked him! LMAO!!!!
That is one of my favorite stories as I am not a big Costello fan and was glad to hear a woman put his cocky ass in place!

Had I been in Bonnie's place, I would given him a good decking too! What a thing for him to have said!
I'm not too fond of Elvis Costello either - he does seem to be a bit cocky at times.

Well, I hope this isn't going to become an "Elvis-bashing" post. While I don't defend what he said, it was mostly just a publicity stunt done in "true punk fashion" (The Sex Pistols have said far worse things). He just wanted to p!ss people off, and felt uncomfortable in what he felt was a "redneck bar", so he made the statement. He was really a fan of Charles, and took a LOT of flak from the press for what he'd said. In fact, his next album, "Get Happy", was heavily influenced by soul music.
In the words of Paul Harvey, "...and now you know the rest of the story.."

I personally don't like him and think he is overrated, but that is my opinion alone, just like I know there are many who feel that way about my favorites. There could be a lot said, why make such a harsh statement for attention, why was he in a red neck bar if he was uncomfortable, etc. My story was more on Bonnie and the balls she had to slug him one! LOL!

I won't deny that his comments in that bar were stupid and insulting but I think he paid nicely for it with an apology to Ray Charles (who's said that he didn't even care because he wasn't there) and Bonnie's right hook. More power to her for doing it. Anyway, I love this new feature! ;D It's great for getting a discussion going.

I'm not a big Costello fan either. He just doesn't look like a musician to me. He looks like he should be a science teacher or something...Plus, he's annoying. You know how it is. There just something about him that I don't like. I just can't put my finger on it.
