1961 At a special luncheon at the Hotel Claridge, Elvis is presented by RCA with a diamond-studded watch to honor record sales of more than 75 million. At the 1:45pm press conference, Sam Phillips asks why Sun Records gets so little recognition for Elvis' success, reminding everyone that "RCA wouldn't have him if it wasn't for Phillips." Geez I bet Elvis hated getting such flashy jewelry.

Yeah,he was such a quiet, unassuming soul.He never went in for all that flash. ;D Yeah,Sun deserves a great deal of credit for the rise of the "Elvis Phenomenon".

75 million - that's pretty impressive, especially for that early in the rock era! I'm sure he enjoyed receiving that watch! ;D

Philips was right - he must have been kicking himself though for letting Elvis go for such a small amount of money.
