September 28, 1966 - This week in 1966, Neil Diamond had his first big success, as both a singer and a songwriter. Cherry Cherry became Diamond’s first top 10 hit as a singer this week in ‘66, and another song he wrote was on its way to the top 10. A couple of months later in 1966, I’m A Believer - written by Neil Diamond for The Monkees - did hit the top 10 and eventually number one.

Hi JP. Neil Diamond was one of my favorite singers as a kid. I've always liked his music. Cherry, Cherry is a great song, as is I'm a Believer.

I've always loved "Cherry Cherry" (And "Be;liever!") but my first favorite Neil Diamond song was Solitary Man. I remember seeing him perform it on American Bandstand in 1965--but it obviously wasn't as big a hit as "Cherry"....
I'm a HUGE fan of his 60s hits--not so much so of his 70s hits.
