November 8, 1963 - Dusty Springfield unofficially left her brother’s folk rock band The Springfields and went solo. Although they didn’t know it at the time, Tom and Dusty Springfield would never record together again. They also never realized at the time that they unofficially established two “firsts” in the history of rock ‘n roll with their only hit record together in 1962. Although the form of music wasn’t recognized at the time, "Silver Threads And Golden Needles" was arguably the first folk rock hit in America and it made Dusty Springfield the first of the British Invasion acts to have a hit record in America – a year and a half before The Beatles had a hit record on this side of the Atlantic.

It's always seemed to me a pretty good country song more than folk-rock.

I've heard Linda Ronstadt's version of Silver Threads, but didn't realize that Dusty had recorded it first. Good song!
