November 9, 1965 - A small circuit breaker failed at a power station in upstate New York, starting a chain reaction. Minutes later, power went out in 8 states and 2 provinces in Canada. The massive power failure blacked out most of the northeastern United States for 13 hours. That night, both Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones were in New York for concerts. Obviously the concerts were canceled, but Dylan and Brian Jones of The Stones spent the night jamming on acoustic guitars in Dylan's suite at the New York Hilton. The Great Northeast Black Out of 1965 also inspired some music on the other side of the Atlantic. It inspired the Bee Gees hit, (The Lights Went Out In) Massachusetts.

Too bad there aren't any tapes of that jam session!

I agree with M C - I imagine tapes of that session would have made for great listening!
