November 23, 1976 - Another chapter in the life and times of The Killer, Jerry Lee Lewis. It was today in 1976 that a drunken Jerry Lee Lewis was arrested in Memphis after he was spotted outside Graceland, waving a pistol and demanding to see Elvis. Lewis was charged with public intoxication, possession of a firearm – and generally causing way too much "shakin' goin' on." Elvis wasn't fazed by the incident.
Elvis watches the whole drama on closed-circuit monitors.
Thanks again to JP. I had the same story on my daily calendar, and that second paragraph is from there.
My comments-if I were Elvis, I'd be dying to know what the deal was! I'd have guards confiscate the gun and bring him in. Mano e mano, El could take the "Killer".

Were they buds from their days at Sun Records or did Jerry Lee always hold a grudge?

Were they buds from their days at Sun Records or did Jerry Lee always hold a grudge? They shoulda been buds-they were both part of the Million Dollar Quartet with Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash! That's why if I were Elvis I'd wanna know what was up! I DO remember reading a quote from Jerry Lee once that basically said, "the guys been dead X amount of years and the son of a bitch still outdraws me!"

I remember reading something about that incident. Yeah I always thought they were buddies.
I seem to recall seeing something on TV about I think it may have been Johnny Cash (??) who was on tour at the time and was in the area and wanted to stop by and say hello to Elvis but he said that by that time (mid -to late 60's I think) It was really hard to get through to Presley because he hadso many people around him and by that time he already felt like a prisoner by his level of fame.
