This year wasn't too bad. It's kinda the "in between" year. The year before was basically 60's, whereas this year has a few that dripped into the very beginning of the 70's (Doors, CCR, Sly). Next year begins the 70's artists. Now I don't really know Ruth Brown, but wouldn't she fit that "Outside Influence" category I suggested? I just don't see some of these artists as "Rock". And Etta James-she's more Jazz, no? No arguement with Cream, CCR and the Doors who all came in, made a big impact, and got out before they faded into medocricy. (Although the Doors DID do that "Other Voices" LP after Jim died...) Sly there is absolutely no question-in some ways, he's the most deserving here! He wasn't just Soul or R&B, he was the beginnings of Funk, you know he had influence on rap (for better or worse) and showed you don't have to be white to rock! Frankie was on the ballot for so many years and there is a rule if you are on for so many in a row, you go in. I don't question him going in. That leaves Van. I've made it known I'm not a huge fan like others are, and I guess I still question him going in so quickly, but he's lasted and deserves to be in one way or another.
And the oldest teenager finally went in as well.....

Great year. Most glad to see Dick Clark in as a non-performer. Virtually everyone was deserving here, but I'd take out Ruth Brown--an early R & B/early rock pioneer to be sure, but just not REALLY big. And Etta James, although recorded a few jazz songs, was primarily a 60's R & B hit machine, climaxing with the GREAT "Tell mama" in 1967/68--also recorded the early rock-n-roll fave "Wallflower" in 1955.
Keep this feature up!

At first glance, I thought what a great year. Looked again, & said, what a great year. CCR, Cream, & the Doors so deserving and 3 of my all-time favorite groups. I appreciate Sly & VAn more now than when they were huge. Dick Clark is finally in, albeit 6 or 7 years late.

It's really nice to see CCR on this list, but I didn't think Sly and the Family Stone were that big.

A very solid class of inductees overall. Ruth Brown is a bit of a puzzle - not sure why she went in so quickly, but the others are very deserving.

OK.... How the heck is Dinah Washington an early influence and Ruth Brown and Etta James go in as performers. I don't think Ruth Brown did much past "Lucky LIps" in the mid '50s, and Dinah was scoring well into the '60s. Doors, Cream and CCR, for sure. Sly also. Van Morrison? I don't know. Maybe. But Frankie Lymon? I guess he influenced Michael Jackson. Good to see Dick Clark. Shouldda gone in in Year 2 or 3.
