2005
Performers
Buddy Guy The O'Jays The Pretenders Percy Sledge U2
Lifetime Achievement
Frank Barsalona Seymour Stein
Appropriate I began this feature this year, the 20th. I initially started this because many of us disputated a lot of this year's entrants. So I was figuring you would have a lot of disagreements with past years. But you mostly supported what I thought were questionable artists! LOL! Buddy Guy-I guess every bluesman will eventually get in. The O'Jays-as long as the Spinners go in next year, I'm ok with it. (What separates the two?) The Pretenders. No problem with it. Just the "Before...?" factor. (But you gotta have some first year entrants I guess.) Percy Sledge. No. Not with Chicago & the Moodies standing out in the cold looking in the window. U2. You knew it was coming. But it's just hard to take with so many others sitting out.
So this concludes this feature! Hope you liked it!!

Buddy Guy - I've heard of him, but absolutely know nothing about him. To get into the Hall as a performer, as opposed to an influence, don't you have to be somewhat connected to Rock and Roll? The O'Jays - They're not bad, but I agree, NOT before The Spinners The Pretenders - Damn! Has it been THAT long already? Percy Sledge - Are you serious? Do they have a One Hit Wonder section? (Granted, I LOVE that song....but...) Who's next? Zager and Evans? U2 - See my note on the Pretenders Great feature, Adam.

Like 2003, I was a bit disappointed, with a lackluster 5 entrants.
With their followings in the rock field in the 1980's, not too surprised with U2 and the Pretenders going in.
Buddy Guy, I know a lot OF him, just really don't recall any specific song titles, but I took some notice with a Grammy win a while back with the album "Damn right I got the blues".
O'Jays, like the Isleys' bit of a wait a while back, another long-lived R & B group that got their Hall due. Glad to see them in.
Percy Sledge? Well, you have one of Rolling Stone's all time top songs, coupled with Atlantic Records ace Ahmet Eretgun. You can bet nearly EVERY important rock era act that ever recorded opn Atlantic Records will go in. That's all I'll say.

U2 - It was going to happen, so why not 2005 Pretenders - Not a fan, maybe that's why I don't understand it O'Jays - Like 'em, but not ahead of the Spinners Percy Sledge - Just can't figure this one out. Maybe Dave hit the nail on the head with his response. Buddy Guy - Over the past couple of years, I've listened to more & more blues. Buddy was one of the best. Maybe the one Guy that really deserved it this year.

This was a disappointing class for me. With so many worthy artists waiting to be inducted, I can't understand why they only chose 5 performers this year. The O'Jays are deserving, but like others I hope The Spinners are soon recognized as well. The Pretenders and U2 are worthy also, but I would have waited a few more years for them. I'm not really familiar with Buddy Guy enough to comment, but Percy Sledge I definitely can't understand. Why him and not Chicago, the Moodies, or Carole King?

I was not impressed at all with this year's list. U2? Come on!!! I mean, their induction was inevitable, but not this soon. I realize they've been around a long time, but Bono needs to get his head out of his ass before they deserve to get an honor like this.
I can't wait for next year.
Any idea how I can find out who's in the songwriting HOF?
