As I've mentioned in another thread, I saw Creedence Clearwater Revisited on July 4th. This variation of CCR is Stu & Doug (Cosmo), with three other guys. The bulk of the lead vocals fell the their rhythm guitar player, John Tristao. John Tristao is a very large & very bald man, so he will never be confused with John Fogerty. But sometimes when you closed your eyes & listened, you'd swear it the other John singing.
They opened with Born On the Bayou & Green River, each member of the band adding their own personal touches to the songs. One thing I noticed about Revisited, was the music was a little more racy, more of edge to it. Even the obvious "country" flavored songs of the original CCR like Lodi, Lookin' Out My Back Door, & Proud Mary seem to have more of rock edge to them. They did a "radio edit" of I Heard it Through the Grapevine, limiting it to only about 10 minutes or so, but it still sounded great.
They finished with Proud Mary & Fortunate Son & left the stage, I thought about 20 minutes early. Sure enough, encore 1 featured Have You Ever Seen the Rain & Travellin' Band. Coming back for encore 2, the started with a very bluesy version of Run Through the Jungle, featuring about a 5 minute intro. This intro featured some great bass riffs & harmonica. It certainly wasn't my Run Through the Jungle. But I was impressed. Final song of the night was Up Around the Bend. It was good to end with an upbeat song.
Since this was a free concert, it's probably easy to say they were good. But ya know, I'd think I would pay to see these guys again, that good. I made a remark to a couple sitting next to me after Bad Moon Rising, was the only thing wrong with that song is it's not long enough. Ends way to soon. Like I told Laura, if the opportunity comes up to see Creedence Clearwater Revisited, take it, you won't be disappointed.
