Mark and I are going to see Steely Dan at the Nokia Theater in L.A. tonight. We went to see them two summers ago in Irvine when they were touring with Michael McDonald, and that concert was amazing, one of the best I've ever been to. They didn't do any West coast dates last year that I know of, so I'm glad to be able to catch them again this year.
I'm hoping they perform The Caves of Altamira and Pretzel Logic - love those songs!

Dawn, I love when bands go deep into the catalogue for some obscure favorites. Enjoy the show!

Thanks, Ed and Dave.
It was an enjoyable show, but very different in content from when I saw them two years ago. That show featured more of the well-known songs like Peg, Do It Again, Time Out of Mind, Reeling in the Years, etc. along with several more obscure cuts. This time, it was pretty much all deeper tracks - and lots of Gaucho stuff - with only a few of their hits included. We unfortunately didn't get to see the encore as it was past 10:30 by that point and we had to leave (one drawback of living in suburbia - as it was, we didn't get home until 12:30!)
Here's the setlist, grabbed from the dandom.com guest book:
Everyone's Gone to the Movies/The Fez (instrumental by the band; then Donald, Walter, and the female singers were introduced) The Royal Scam I Got the News Showbiz Kids (kind of a different take on this; the backup singers only sang a few bars of "go to Lost Wages" here and there instead of throughout the song as it is on the released version) Everything You Did Two Against Nature Hey Nineteen Godwhacker Glamour Profession New Frontier (was really surprised to hear this, as Donald didn't do any solo stuff last time) Gaucho (Walter's only lead; his voice isn't as distinctive as Donald's but still quite good) Babylon Sisters Parker's Band Third World Man Josie (best song in the set; this was extraordinary) Aja Love is Like An Itching in My Heart
The songs we missed (wish we could have stayed longer; I imagine they were awesome) Peg Kid Charlemagne Don't Take Me Alive FM

What a set list!! I'm glad you had a great time, Dawn. My oldest brother saw Donald and Walter on the "Two Against Nature" tour.
