My favorite here is actually the Johnny Hates Jazz song Shattered Dreams, excellent song. I have it on a cassette somewhere. There are probably another 5 or 6 songs I know. The rest, don't know.

I have that one on an '80s "Living in Oblivion" compilation (vol 3). That's ok--I don't expect everyone to know all the songs I pick for these mix CD's!

Agreed. I've always liked that song as well, and their follow-up, I Don't Want to Be A Hero, is pretty good also.

I don't remember that one. I remember "Turn Back the Clock"--I'm pretty sure that was them, wasn't it?

There is a real variety of songs here. I'm a big fan of Eric Johnson, so it's great to see him included. I use to play "Don't Rock The Jukebox" quite often when I was DJing weddings.
Did Johnny Hates Jazz have more than one hit? Shattered Dreams is the only one I ever remember hearing.

Did Johnny Hates Jazz have more than one hit? Shattered Dreams is the only one I ever remember hearing. I Don't Want to Be A Hero was their only other top 40 hit, but it didn't get nearly as much radio play as Shattered Dreams did, and only peaked at #31. Musically, the two songs are somewhat similar, so I'm guessing that the anti-war stance of "Hero's" lyrics may have been a factor in it not being as successful. Still, the lyrics "And those who return / Come back only to learn / That they're hated by those who they love" are a sobering reminder of how our brave servicemen and women were treated upon returning from Vietnam.
