Many of us here on the Click have a pretty broad spectrum of musical likes, and have several different genres in our music collections. But are there some artists/styles you "specialize" in, where your collection goes especially deep?
For me, it would be:
Late '60s-early '70s sunshine pop/psychedelia. I love pretty much anything from this genre/subgenre, and have CDs by artists like the Free Design, Boston Tea Party, Fifth Dimension, Euphoria, Peppermint Rainbow, Colours, Mortimer, Roger Nichols, Peppermint Trolley Company, Yellow Balloon, Don Agrati, just to name a few. I love the relaxed, carefree vibe of the music.
The Beach Boys of course, and artists inspired by and recording in a similar style: Wondermints, Chris Rainbow, Mark Eric, Harmony Grass, June and the Exit Wounds, Tradewinds, etc.
Ditto the Beatles and artists inspired by them, especially Emitt Rhodes and Badfinger. Also Pilot - they may have had only one North American hit with Magic, but a lot of their stuff is great!
Westcoast/AOR, sometimes called "Yacht Rock." Not sure exactly what it is about the music that appeals to me so much, but I love pretty much all of it. Michael McDonald, Larsen/Feiten Band, Robbie Dupree, Sneaker, Ambrosia's late '70s and '80s albums, Bliss Band, Player, Donald Fagen, Stevie Woods, Greg Guidry - the list goes on and on.
What are some of yours?

For me, it would be:
Power Pop - I really, really love this genre. Artists such as Badfinger, Big Star, The Raspberries, The Posies, Marshall Crenshaw, Emitt Rhodes, The Flamin' Groovies, Smithereens, The Shoes etc etc.
60's U.S. / U.K Garage / Pop / Psychedelic. I have the first two Nuggets box sets plus some of the earlier Nuggets CD / Vinyl compilations as well.I love all this stuff. Some of the artists would include: Yardbirds, Small Faces, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Smoke, The Merry Go Round, The Standells etc.

I've really gotten into their stuff in recent years, especially Strawberries Mean Love. Very groovy song! I need to check out the Shoes and Big Star, as I've read a lot of good reviews of their music. Ken, I bet you'd like Pilot a lot. Their style is similar to some of the artists you mentioned.

Well - you probably know that I collect oldies. I have over 5000 45s and have the top 100 songs of each year from 1955 through 1985 in one format or another (45, LP or CD). I'm currently working on my 1986-1989 collection.
I've also (again as you know) burned themed CD mixes of things like: several versions of the same song, extremely popular songs that never made the top 20 and forgotten songs that made the top 10.
Recently, I've gotten somewhat interested in concept albums. Mainly The Moody Blues (Days of Future Passed, In Search of the Lost Chord, On the Threshold of a Dream) Alice Cooper (From the Inside) and a couple of others that I can't think of now.

Dawn, you and I have such similar tastes in music, it's almost freaky, although I'm not into the Beach Boys as much as you are. But other than that.... I would have to summarize and say that The Beatles would be my strongest category. In addition, late sixties psychedelic and "bubblegum" pop would have to be my second. It's funny, when I was a teenager, I was SO into the Strawberry Alarm Clock and never knew anyone who liked them. People were always like, "What's it with them and all their "Black Butter" songs? Anytime I hear "Sit With the Guru", "Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow", "Paxton's Backstreet Carnival" or really, any of their songs, I am transported back. Not too long ago, I got their anthology CD. Groovy stuff, baby.

Okay, the most of any artist I have are Aerosmith Beatles (I also have something solo by every Beatle) Bob Dylan Bruce Springsteen Chicago Eagles Clapton (to include stuff he did with Cream, Yardbirds, Derek & the Dominoes & others) Johnny Cash Muddy Waters Pink Floyd Rolling Stones Santana Tom Petty The Who ZZ Top
Like Ed, I also make some of my own CDs, many I've posted here. I also have a ton of soundtracks.
To explain my musical tastes, the best ten years of music was from 1964-1973, so that is what I aim for. But for the most part, for me it's 60s & 70s.

My tastes go all over the board...right now I'm listening to Barry Manilow, but I had to take out my British import Jimi Hendrix live CD to play it!
But as far as specialties...
60's soul...including: Motown--especially Supremes and Four Tops Jackie Wilson Atlantic/Stax
But I am also a huge Johnny Cash/Marty Robbins fan. My Beatles obsession goes back to high school. As well as my love for Paul Revere/Raiders. And Jan and Dean. And Elton John. And Collective Soul.
My tastes may be best defined as ...schizoid.
But, NO "Twang" country! Twin fiddles make me vomit profusely.

I used to consider Barry Manilow one of my "Guilty Pleasures", until I found out that so many people like him that there is nothing to feel guilty about.

My taste is ecclectic, but the core of my being has gone by many names:
New Wave, Alternative (before it went grunge), Dark Wave, New Romantic, etc.
My cd rack is loaded with the likes of Tears For Fears, Howard Jones, Madness, Oingo Boingo, Depeche Mode, The Human League, Squeeze, Erasure, Big Country, Adam Ant, Spandau Ballet, etc etc etc.
I also love "obscurities" that flow along that genre - groups that met with little success in the US. Groups like Electronic, Aztec Camera, Visage, The Lightning Seeds, Army Of Lovers, etc. Living In Oblivion is one of my favorite cd series.
As for my most prolific artists in my cd collection: The Monkees, Duran Duran, The Rolling Stones, Simon and Garfunkel, and The Beatles (and their respective solos).
Nelson largely likes metal, and his most prolific artists are Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, and AC/DC.
I do like other stuff though. I like British Invasion, Motown, Disco, Punk, some classical.......
About the only thing I really dislike is Gangster Rap (and anything in that genre - old school rap is ok) and country - especially the newer country (can't stand stuff like Toby Keith or Carrie Underwood or Shania Twain).
Guilty pleasures: Barry Manilow, ABBA, Olivia Newton John, and New Kids On The Block.

In my case, I'm a huge fan of the 1980's and early 1990's music. I grew up during that period, and have such fond memories of that time. But, not all eighties music. I mostly listened to the stuff that one could dance to. Pop, freestyle, hip hop, R&B, New Wave. I wasn't a huge fan of the heavy metal or rap back then...so naturally, my sibs had to crank it up whenever I was in the house.

Well Dawn, .....As you said before, we all have different taste in music. As for me, I mostly love hearing music from the 1980's era! Cause it's a special era for me during my high school years/young adult years. Love the Nu Wave/British Pop/Punk music scene. But do have other music taste too. For example, I like listening to Latin music (Flamenco, Tango, Samba, Mambo, Cumbias, Reggaeton, Spanish Rap, Spanish rock n roll, etc.). Also I'm very keen on listening to House/Rave/Electronic artists. And did I mention I like listening to 70's classic rock, 70's disco, surf jams, & easy listening!

As most of you here know, I'm pretty well-rounded musically. I grew up on the pop records of the 60s and 70s, and have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of that era.
I have also DJ'd at a club playing 80's New Wave/alternative music. Again, I have a pretty good knowledge of it, but unfortunately, over the past few years, I've grown away from that genre of music, to the point where hearing it now makes me cringe. That doesn't mean I consider it "bad music", I just associate it with a period of my life I have moved on from.
These days, I've been getting more and more into metal/hard rock, especially 70's and 80's bands of that style. I was a huge metal fan in High School, and today I just connect with it on a deep level, especially with what I've gone through over the past few years. Hearing it makes me feel alive, excited, and willing to embrace life, wheras before I felt so "defeated" I actually went on depression medication.
In a nutshell, metal makes me happy...
