This a great topic choice. Throughout my life, I have been a fan of various styles of music. In my formative years, I became a huge fan of the Beatles music, because I was given a batch of their albums by an older cousin. I got early exposure to 60's music, by a stack of 45's by artists such as the Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Three Dog Night and of course the Beatles. This was a gift from my uncle Charlie. My mom always had the radio on, so the pop music of the 70's and 80's were a huge part of my life.
Like Pete, I also grew up on heavy metal music. Bands like Guns n' Roses and Motley Crue were pretty big in my high school. I was also a big fan of the new wave from the first half of the 80's. I always had the radio tuned to WHTT the local hit station.
When I was in college, I was program director for the campus radio station. This exposed me to a variety of artists and bands. Some would go on to become huge stars, while others were relegated to more of a cult status. Some of the acts were signed to major label deals in the "alternative explosion", but were never able to gain themselves an audience.
As the economy continues to struggle, I try to seek out used CD's or clearance items from where I work. I purchased a three CD collection of 80's hits for only four dollars! These were the original artists and hits.
I also purchased Wow Hits 2009, which is a two CD collection of contemporary christian music. I haven't had the opportunity to give it a listen. But I'll let you know about it later.
