I started this thread on another message board(hint: its initials are "R" and "L"), but I thought it would be a good idea to bring it over here.
In Cher's "Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves," the line "Three months later I'm a gal in trouble/And I haven't seen him for awhile" was one I couldn't wrap my young head around. Of course, when I got older, it was obvious: "DUH! She's pregnant!" ;D And it makes the next verse("She was born in the wagon of a traveling show") make sense; she's talking about her daughter.
Another was Elvis's "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck." Actually, the very concept of the song confused me. I remember asking my mom, "How can you wear a ring around your neck? Isn't that impossible?" Then she explained that it meant "wear my ring on a chain around your neck."
Oooooohhhhhh. :lightbulb:

Back in the '60s, girls would wear their boyfriend's high school ring on a chain around their neck. They don't still do that do they? (It's been a while since I was in high school). Now, don't they tattoo their boyfriend's name on their ---- aw never mind.

I'm not sure about the rings on a chain, but I remember when I was in high school, most girls usually wrapped yarn or thread around the back of the band to make it fit, then wore it on a finger.

Back in 1976, I was completely oblivious as to what they meant by an "afternoon delight."

Back in 1976, I was completely oblivious as to what they meant by an "afternoon delight." Yeah, well, that was the summer that Nancy and I got engaged. Why do you think the song is in my top 10 all time? ;D

Count me in on the "Oblivious to 'Afternoon Delight'" scenario...at the age of ten, I thought it was some kind of dessert (ooohkay, in a way, I guess it is!).
"Daniel" by Elton John--who cares if Spain is great? If so, then why haven't the painful scars healed?
"River Deep Mountain High"--Tina Turner comparing herself to a puppy is a strange proposition...
