I've been on an Emitt Rhodes kick recently, and was very happy to come across this video on YouTube. I first discovered it a couple of years ago on EmittRhodesMusic.Net, the closest thing to an official site for him - but the links to the video were prone to problems and for a while were down altogether.
Not much video footage exists of Emitt, as he was active as a solo artist for only a few years, so this is great to have. Emitt wrote, mixed, produced, and played all the instruments on this track in his home studio. It's from his 1971 album Mirror, and is one of my favorite songs from him. He was just 21 at the time. Emitt was definitely one of the most promising artists of his generation, very talented, but unfortunately the demands of an unfair record contract cut his career short. I've been told he is finishing material for a new album, which I am looking forward to hearing.

I really basically only know some of his Merry-Go-Round songs, and I don't think I've heard this one. I love the videp showing him playing the different instruments.

Yes, I really like his work with the Merry-Go-Round as well. You're A Very Lovely Woman is an amazing song, especially considering that Emitt was only 17 years old when he wrote it. Here's a cool live appearance of the band from I believe 1968: And here are some tracks from his debut album, usually considered to be his best (and it's great I agree, but I'm a bit partial to Mirror):

Hi Dawn, It's great to see this again! It's too bad there is so little video footage of both Emitt solo and The Merry Go Round.

According to what I've read, the MGR played at quite a few venues, including places like the Hollywood Bowl, but apparently not many performances were filmed.

Yeah, I thought it was interesting, how on the website it mentioned something about, "This is the music Paul "should" have been making as a solo artist." I could totally hear Paul, even though Emitt's stuff is purely original. They should have collaborated!!!!
