Let's look at some underplayed gems from the Paul Revere & the Raiders catalog.
The first is I Had A Dream, from 1967. This was a top 20 song, but I've never heard it on any oldies station. The trippy organ riffs are very cool.
Next is Don't Take It So Hard, released in summer 1968. This is a great, upbeat song that should have been a bigger hit. Nice vocal from Mark Lindsay on the bridge, and cool instrumental fade-out.
Last is Let Me from 1969, their final top 40 hit of the '60s. I used to hear this on occasion on oldies stations years ago, but not recently. A shame, too, as it's a great rocker, one of their best.

"I Had a Dream" is one of my fave Raiders songs. Lots of non-psychedelic bands were trying a bit of psychedelic exploration in 1967.
That vocal on the bridge of "You Shouldn't Take It So Hard" sounds like the Monkees to me.

Love this stuff, so much! So cool! I agree, Ken! They had so many great songs. I'm planning to do a "Part 2" on them a bit later on.

I can definitely picture Micky Dolenz singing that bridge.

I'm familiar with all three, although I didn't remember I Had A Dream until I played it and did one of those "Oh yeah. THAT song!"
I remember Don't Take It So Hard nearly being overplayed back in the day, and I remember Let Me quite well also.
All three are good songs

The song does seem tailor-made for AM radio - possibly it was heavily promoted, but for some reason didn't catch on as well as their other hits in terms of sales?

I think it's poppier than most of their other songs, which like you say, gave it AM appeal. But people were buying more psychedellic stuff and getting into some harder rock and other classic rock type genres. Some of the more popular Paul Revere songs like Kicks and Hungry were much harder sounding.
