In honor of - or should I say in -uh- MEMORY - of another site whose music board consists basically of threads like "What Song Is Stuck in Your Head?" I thought I'd try a different tack. It's about songs that you can't stand, or at least that you are mildly annoyed by, that you then hear on the radio or (shudder) in a department store or elevator, and you find yourself humming them for the rest of the day. You realize your doing it and try to stop, and five minutes later you're humming the same song. These are Songs That Are Stuck in Your Spleen!! Today, mine is "Baby I Love You" by Andy Kim. I love the original by the Ronettes, it's a great early '60s soul ballad, in the style of their earlier "Be My Baby". But Andy turned it into a kind of poppy disco sound, before there was disco. Maybe we can give Andy Kim some credit for inventing or at least promoting disco (much in the way we can give Gavrilo Princip, who assassinated Archduke Ferdinand, "credit" for starting World War One). Anyway, I heard Andy's cover of the Ronettes' classic on XM this morning and it is now stuck in my spleen.

perhaps if you were to vent your spleen they would get discharged!
Fortunately, when I get songs stuck in my head, they're not ones I hate. Oddly though, they're also not ones I really like. Songs that get 3.0 on "Rate the Songs". Like "Absolutely Right" by the 5 Man Electrical Band, which was in my head yesterday, and I hadn't even heard it anywhere- it just popped up.

OK, this morning, I was watcing the Weather Channel for its "Weather on the 8s" as I do every workday morning before I hit the shower at 6 am. I noticed that the background music sounded a lot like a Muzak-y version of Jefferson Starship's "Find Your Way Back." Guess what's stuck in my head right now?

Smitty, I just had the Weather Channel on a few minutes ago, and heard that song. You're right, it is Find Your Way Back - kind of an odd choice for background music, I agree.

I have something to add to the forum. Right now, I have the radio tuned to the local oldies station. On Sunday evenings, they have their specialty programming. In the past hour, I have heard "Precious, Precious" by Jackie Moore played twice! The first time was about an hour ago when I was tuned to the "Lost 45's" with Barry Scott. He was spotlighting unexpected million sellers. The second instance was a classic rerun of "American Top 40 the Seventies", with Casey Kasem from this week, March 6, 1971. I'm not complaining because I rarely hear the song. Call it a happy coincidence!

I barely remember it (in fact, I may be thinking of the wrong song!) You would think that by definition, a song was a million seller - especially back in the early '70s when not as many records went gold - that it would HAVE to be top 10. It kinda makes you question the whole rankings process.

Neil Diamond. "I Am...I Said". Help me. Glad to help you Gremmie! How's this? I AM... I SAID Written by Neil Diamond L.A.'s fine, the sun shines most the time And the feeling is 'lay back' Palm trees grow, and rents are low But you know I keep thinkin' about Making my way back Well I'm New York City born and raised But nowadays, I'm lost between two shores L.A.'s fine, but it ain't home New York's home, but it ain't mine no more "I am," I said To no one there An no one heard at all Not even the chair "I am," I cried "I am," said I And I am lost, and I can't even say why Leavin' me lonely still Did you ever read about a frog who dreamed of bein' a king And then became one Well except for the names and a few other changes I you talk about me, the story's the same one But I got an emptiness deep inside And I've tried, but it won't let me go And I'm not a man who likes to swear But I never cared for the sound of being alone "I am," I said To no one there An no one heard at all Not even the chair "I am," I cried "I am," said I And I am lost, and I can't even say why Leavin' me lonely still ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I've never heard that song on oldies radio - just on Music Choice and XM, and even on those, not very often. That's very cool that you heard it twice that close together!

I have been fighting the "Billie Jean" by Micheal Jackson monster all day! Make it stop!!! Well sorry, Matt. I actually like that song - a lot. (Seriously) I am far from a big Jacko fan. In fact I don't like much of his music. But he's had three songs that I think are super. Ben She's Out of My Life and ... yep -- Billie Jean. That's why the world goes 'round, I guess. One man's meat is another man's poison.
