Wedding Anniversary Record Huntin'

Missus Gremashlo, the two little Grems and myself went out to Omaha yesterday for our 17th wedding anniversary! (actually, we started off with my youngest daughter's volleyball tourney in nearby Blair, but used that trip as a reason to hightail it to Omaha)

While in the Big O (yes, both Otis Redding and Roy Orbison both do half-gainers in their graves each time Omaha is referred to as such), Missus Gremashlo allowed me to pillage the city's antique stores and purchase 45's to my little heart's content. I love her.

I wound up with exactly 100 45's (many of which are baled together in groups of 20 at one particular antique store which long ago gave up trying to sell them individually), and here's some of the better ones I unearthed--I wound up with several duplicates in the bales, but the quality finds outweight that...

I would assume, Gregg, that Oscar Robertson would not be too happy about that particular designation for Omaha. However since Omaha is probably not partiuclarly happy about "The Bog "O" being used as a designation for Robertson, Redding OR Orbison, you could say the feeling is Mutual of Omaha.

Now as to the music. First of all, out of curiosity, what did you pay for a packet of 20?

I'm familiar with, and own most of the 45s you mentioned, but I've never heard Louis Armstrong do Mack The Knife, and am also unfamiliar with the Johnny Cash, Buddy Hackett, Johnny Sea,The Senators, and Stevie Wonder selections. I don't have the Fabian picture sleeve (but I do have the 45), but I do have the Jan and Dean picture sleeve.

"Mutual of Omaha"...ba-da-bum! Rim shot! ;D

Ed, you will absolutely believe that I am cavorting with uneducated, unwashed heathens when I tell you that the "bales" are $5 each for the 20 45s. The Sun Cash and the typo Jr. Walker were all parts of the four collections that I bought.

The Fabian and Jan and Dean singles were $4--WITH the picture sleeves! I also bought 18 others at 50 cents each, including Barbara Lewis and Duane Eddy. The collective record market is pretty much dead in Nebraska, much to my unbridled joy--until I decide to sell MINE...

Sadly, I have just about shopped out the one antique store--they haven't added any sets of 20 since my last trip in February, though they have another booth at a mall along the interstate between Lincoln and Omaha...i haven't been out thee since last summer.

It is a novelty record from 1960-61--it is about JFK's election, and even has a bit about JFK Jr.

I know--everytime I screw something up, it becomes worthless! That is what makes a significant difference between baseball card and record collecting...typos and errors on cards (unless humorous or notorious) actually drop a card's value.

That Lesley Gore track is used every morning at work to promote a segment on the 6 AM news. I hated it at first, but it's gorwn on me. The 6 AM producer got a lot of noise from the others in the control room about it, so he did a vote on the website and let the viewers decide if we should get rid of it. Something like 70% of the respondents said to keep it...
