Ok, if anyone wants to do compilations on X or XTC, be my guest! As for me, I'm skippin' to W!
To me, no Walsh collection is complete. You would think it wouldn't be TOO hard to do because he didn't have a ton of "hit" singles and he didn't seem to have a ton of popular album tracks like a Zeppelin or an Elton or a Stones.
The first colection is The Best of which came out in 78. Because of this, Life's Been Good did not make the album (except for cassette versions). It contains Rocky Mountain & the two big James Gang songs, along with lesser remembered songs like Meadows and Turn to Stone. But again, this was one released too early in his career.
There's an 85 budget collection which of course is incomplete.
Look What I Did! was a 2 disc collection and a chance for them to do it right. It was late in his career-after his most recent album-and with 2 discs, they could include everything! But......Well anyway, they did include more James Gang stuff, which was nice. The essential early stuff included on Best of is here as well. Disc 2 is the bigger problem. For one, no The Confessor. I know people who love this as their favorite Walsh tune. Second, a live Ordinary Average Guy? And-no other tracks from that album? I think All of a Sudden should be included on a 2 disc set! (Another personal fave is Alphabetical Order!) They included no less than 3 tracks from his final album! And even there, they didn't include Fairbanks, Alaska, which is in the Life's Been Good/Ordinary Average Guy "fun" veign. But the absolute BIGGEST problem here is-WHERE IS AT THE STATION?? Two disc set and you don't include that???
The final one, Little Did He Know......a good single disc collection hitting most of the big spots, with the pluses being the inclusion of The Confessor and the studio OAG. (Still no Station!)
So basically, if you just want an "overview" collection, this most recent collection is good-provided you own But Seriously Folks on disc!!
