Goodie Bag CD

Nelson and I renewed our wedding vows on August 29, in Cleveland (where we met). Some of our good friends trecked in from Virginia, and Illinois (and in the case of Daniel, alllllll the way from.....Cleveland!). It meant a lot to have them make the trip for us, and so we made sure everyone who attended got a goodie bag.

Each goodie bag had a vintage magazine ad for something they like (trains, planes, cars, and old stereo equipment), an item picked special for them (tv show memorabilia, sports memorabilia, and Coke memorabilia), and - since IMO our generation brought the mix-tape to a level of artform - a CD of songs that had meaning for us. I custom designed a cover for it that had pictures from places where Nelson and I went when we were dating, and the mascots for where we were going to school when we met.

Not only did the songs have meaning for us, but buried in the CD was a "nod" to each of the people who was there (and one who couldn't make it, but called me that morning to wish us well), and a nod to the group in general. Our wedding didn't go great (my late mother-in-law was mentally ill, and didn't handle the wedding with tact), so we wanted a chance to have something that was meaningful, surrounded by people who we care about. As such, there was only one song on that CD that was a holdover from our actual wedding.

I didn't put a track listing anywhere on it. I generally don't, becuase our taste in music is ecclectic, and I don't want to discourage people from listening to something new. I need to post a message at the forum where we all hang out to see if the people have found their songs yet. ;D

I won't give away the songs hidden for the people (since one posts here), except for that Track 10 was a nod to my friend Brenda. We've been friends for 22 years. She was my maid of honor at my wedding, but couldn't make it to the service (although she called that morning to wish us well).

The lone holdover from our wedding was Track 14. It was our bridal party dance. And a sincere dedication to all of our friends.

Thanks! It just came to me one night when I was listening to some random cd's that I had made to back-up the music stored on my hard drive. We both said "this song reminds me of so and so", and on it went.

My friend Brenda loved Matthew & Gunnar Nelson (still does - she took me to one of their shows, and it was good), and played that cd (After The Rain) constantly. When my husband and I first started dating, she and I were in a Spencer Gifts somewhere, and there was a pin on the rack that said "NELSON" on the top, and below the pin was a heart with the twins picture on it. She kept trying to convince me to buy it. I kept telling her I wasn't a fan. She then told me that if I bought it, I could keep the top part, and she could keep the bottom part.

I didn't buy it, but it's one of those things that you hang on to over time, and is why I put the song on there. Nelson and I like it, and it fits, but it's got another reason for being there.

What a creative and thoughtful idea! I've heard of couples doing wedding CDs that featured their special songs, but to have also featured songs that are meaningful to your guests and friends as well is very unique. The cover art sounds very cool as well!

Great selection of songs. My favorites from it would be Sweetheart and Waiting on a Friend.

I did the cover in Photoshop. I converted it over so I could dump it into Paint. When I did, it got just a bit goofy on the lettering, but you get the gist:

I see that it's on Randall Park Records. I didn't know they were still in business.

But I'm glad to see that you and Nelson have been in "business" for 15 years -- and at least 50 more!

It's barely hanging on. It's got two teeny tiny sub-divisions operating out of their once-mighty building, and neither of those can access the other parts.



And as Mike C (tall one in the blue polo shirt and denim shorts) said, "We're only here for the easy credit". ;D

**On a "real" side-note, that's the lone "unbroken" parking lot sign left, and we no sooner pulled into the parking lot when one of North Randall's one or two remaining police officers pulled in behind us, wanting to know why we were there. We explained, and told him we were just there to shoot a few shots, and he was very pleasant and drove away
