Old news, I know... So, what do you all think about this news? I think we all agree that Paula Abdul leaving was inevitable. But, how do you all feel about Ellen DeGeneres taking over her spot? I know some have criticized the choice, mainly citing the fact that she has no musical background. I think it's brilliant myself. She gives the perspective of judging from the fan's point of view. She's now taken on the "nice" judge chair. And, I think it could be hilarious to see her and Simon banter with each other. I don't know if ANYONE here watches American Idol (I'm thinking not too many of you do). But, what's your take?

I watched AI pretty regularly during seasons 2 through 7, but only sporadically last year.
I don't think Ellen is a bad choice. As you said, she brings more a fan's perspective to the table, and that might make for some interesting dynamics. The show definitely needs a breath of fresh air.
The main problem with AI, I think, isn't with Paula Abdul or Ellen, but the fact that it's starting to show its age. A lot of the freshness has worn off, and even with different contestants each year, it's starting to feel a bit same-y. Randy's "Yo dawg, check it out" and "that was kinda pitchy, dude" banter has gotten old, and even Simon seems to be uninterested at times.
