A few bits of trivia I learned at the Hall:
Jefferson Airplane felt "compelled" to sing 'White Rabbit' at concerts. They had a tendency to sing it too rapidly.
Peter and Gordon's hit 'Woman' was written by Bernard Webb. Bernard Webb was Paul McCartney
The Canadian group Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks evolved into The Band
'Hang on Sloopy' is Ohio's state rock song.
'Cleveland Rocks' was written by Ian Hunter.

Before the Airplane, the Great Society (with Grace Slick) performed the song "White Rabbit". Has a very Oriental/Arabic feel to it.

MC, are you saying that the Great Society version has an even more Arabic/Oriental feel to it than the Airplane version? Because I think the Airplane version is pretty far in that direction anyway.

Definitely! the Airplane version has a clipped, precise, military-drumming style. The Great Society version is more loose and free-flowing (especially check the long instrumental intro- it's on Youtube.)
