You know how Casey kasem used to host America's Top 40 before that chucklehead Ryan Seacrest took over? I remember watching the video component of that radio show, only it was called "America's Top 10" (my guess is being that they'd need four and a half hours to do a Top 40 with no commercials).
Who here remembers this show?
I thought I'd kickstart your memory by posting this clip from the August 31, 1980 show (which was before I was born, LOL). Get a load at the Kim Carnes video two minutes into it...hysterical!
There are other years listed on YouTube too...I think the most recent I've seen was from January 1989...

Wow, thanks for posting this, Jug! I didn't realize clips from that show were on YouTube. I love the Casey Kasem Top 40 countdowns....have recorded them from Sirius/XM each week for the past 2 or 3 years. I love that Kim Carnes song, but had never seen the video for it. Yikes! Just heard Witch Doctor on Sirius/XM this past Saturday. I vividly remember when those countdown songs were popular...I was just starting 7th grade. Hard to believe that will soon be 30 years ago!

Juggie, I have the actual Billboard magazine from that very chart date. I remember the show from my youth. It was pretty cool to see the different charts featured. By 1985, they concentrated on the pop chart, but did feature the no. 1's from the different genre's as they went to commercial break. The last official America's Top 10 that I remember was from Jan. 1992. I think Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was in the top ten and "Nevermind" was the no. 1 album. By this time, singles were spending more time in the top 10 and the influence of top 40 radio was starting to wane as musical interests began to fracture.

I don't. Never watched the TV version. Sure do remember Casey, and the radio show. Radio countdowns used to be Top 40. Don't remember if Casey did Top 40 format, or if it was already Top 20.

I 'tripped' across this post...
YES--I actually preferred this to "Solid Gold", mostly due to the length...though this was obviously a low-rent ripoff of Kasem's "American Top 40"--which I miss immensely. My sister and I would listen every weekend to get caught up with the latest songs. Sadly, the market is so fractured and splintered, the show is a hollow mess. HAven't heard it intentionally in years (our local grocery store runs it over their Muzak system on weekends, though)...
