I spent a decent amount of time in my "music room" this afternoon, and I just started pulling 45's at random and started playing...here was most of the playlist (though not in order)--
I Got You Babe--Sonny and Cher Things--Bobby Darin Niki Hoeky--PJ Proby Expressway to Your Heart--Soul Survivors Since You Showed Me How to be Happy--Jackie Wilson Woman--Peter and Gordon I Love You--People Let Yourself Go--Elvis Presley The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore--Walker Brothers Johnny B Goode (Live)---Chuck Berry (this is the flipside to "My Ding-a-Ling") Mystic Eyes--Them Bo Diddley--Bo Diddley That'll Be the Day--Crickets With a Girl Like You--Troggs
Do any of you do this with your collections--just ramble around and play whatever's in your hand at a particular moment?

I used to do things like that all the time, Grem. Now I usually play the CD versions or mp3s on cd or computer shuffle. The computer shuffle is the closest to what you do. Sadly, the only time I play 45s lately is to see if there are subtle differences between the single version and the mp3. I really need to get back to my roots! A distinct '60s flavor to your chosen 45s, Grem. A couple '50s (Bo Diddley and The Crickets - or is that a '60s post Buddy Holly version?) and The Chuck Berry, I assume was the early '70s ('72?) live British Performance. Is this playlist a typical grab of your collection or is it skewed? I have (I think) most, if not all of those songs although not all on 45. I am jealous, however of your PJ Proby 45. I have that song on mp3.

I tend to dig through the 45's when I listen to them... in an effort to pick something that will sound "nice" next to the track I'm listening to.

Cool assortment of songs, Gregg.
Like Ed, I used to listen to 45s more, but nowadays I usually just play the song mp3s in shuffle mode on the Media Player. It's been awhile since I've gotten the 45s out...I believe the last time I did that was several years ago when I was playing some B sides I wasn't previously familiar with, and got introduced to some great tracks that way.

Hi Grem Excellent mix of 45's ( I also have The Soul Survivors, Troggs, Walker Bros and Peter & Gordon tracks on 45, I think I may also have I Got You Babe, I know I have The Beat Goes On. Yes, I go through my 45's quite often and will pull out and play songs I haven't heard for awhile or had forgotten about.

I've done that quite a bit, actually. Usually with some sort of alcohol consumption involved. Get a good buzz going and play random singles, CD's or Mp3's. Fun!

I did that with my albums once while extremely drunk and depressed during my dj'ing career in Hell--I mean, DeSoto, Misery...I was up for hours (at my apartment, NOt on air) as I randomly pulled out albums, played a random track, and went to the next one. I only remember playing "Judy Garland Live at Carnegie Hall" after "Are You Experienced?" by the Jimi Hendrix Experience--Hooray, Beer!
