A bit late in posting this, but...
On March 30, I finally got the chance to see the one artist I've always wanted to see in concert, but hadn't yet: Paul McCartney. He performed two shows at the Hollywood Bowl on March 30 and 31, and we were able to attend the first one.
To say the show was amazing would be an understatement. I've been to some outstanding concerts, but that one topped them all. Paul was phenomenal, as was the band. The show started about 40 minutes late, but ran non-stop for two and a half hours. The setlist was a great mix of Beatles and McCartney solo songs, plus a few covers. Paul made several tributes to George and John, which were very well received.
Here's the setlist:
1. Venus And Mars / Rock Show (considering the lyrics to "Rock Show," I was hoping he'd perform this, and sure enough he did. The crowd roared and punched the air with approval at the "Hollywood Bowl" mention).
2. Jet
3. All My Loving
4. Letting Go
5. Got To Get You Into My Life
6. Highway
7 .Let Me Roll It / Foxey Lady
8. The Long And Winding Road
9. Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five
10. (I Want To) Come Home
11. My Love
12. I’m Looking Through You
13. Two Of Us
14. Blackbird
15 .Here Today
16. Dance Tonight
17. Mrs Vanderbilt
18. Eleanor Rigby
19. Something
20. Sing The Changes
21. Band On The Run
22. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
23. Back In The USSR
24. I’ve Got A Feeling
25. Paperback Writer
26. A Day In The Life / Give Peace A Chance
27. Let It Be
28. Live And Let Die
29. Hey Jude
30. Day Tripper
31. Lady Madonna
32. Get Back
33. Yesterday
34. Helter Skelter
35. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band / The End
Several of these songs had apparently not been performed live in North America prior to this tour, including "Nineteen Hundred Eighty-Five." That along with "Jet," "Letting Go," "Mrs. Vanderbilt" and "Band on the Run" (of course! ) were special highlights for me.
We took our camera along just in case photos were allowed, and to our happy surprise, they were. I snapped pictures like crazy, and although some blurred, others came out ok. So I'll share a few here (they're kinda big, sorry):
The marquee at the Bowl:
A stage shot during "Highway." We were quite far back, but almost dead-center:
Paul on guitar (this is one of the big screens). I think this was during "Let Me Roll It":
Another of Paul:
I absolutely had to get a stage pic of the performance of this one. During the song, they showed live footage of the photo session for the Band on the Run cover, which was very cool:
Fireworks during the choruses of "Live and Let Die." This was amazing:
So glad I finally got to see him!
