Welk was undoubtedly clueless, but I wonder if the younger performers were smiling to themselves. Reportedly, there always was tension between Welk and the younger performers cuz they wanted to do modern contemporary songs and Welk would refuse. Welk was aware enough though to refuse those singers to do "Don't Bogart that Joint" (an obvious tribute to the great Hollywood actor)

My God, this stuff is so cornball!! People of my grandparents' generation had the LAMEST taste in entertainment.. Awful!!
But I LOVE that they slipped in a song with drug references! Stick it to Mr. Uppity-pants Welk!
