Ok, It's a new week and I'll try to post this on Mondays so I can keep it straight. Most people remember The Dream Academy's "Life In A Northern Town" but how many remember the respectable follow-up, "The Love Parade"? It has the same etherial sound of "Life In A Northern Town", but it has a darker story and sound. I remember this song and it took me forever to find it but I finally did a few years ago. And I obtained a copy of their debut album on vinyl a few weeks back (I've never heard anything but the two above songs). One of these days, I'll drop it on the turntable. So here it is. Enjoy and discuss (embedding is disabled): www.youtube.com/user/TheDreamAcademy#p/u/4/-fLVCswP_P4Once again, there are 2 different versions - one album version, and one radio edit. This is the album version - the one I am familiar with. The radio edit (which I don't recall hearing before) did not impress me.

I like this song slightly better than "Life In A Northern Town". I can't exactly describe it, but it sounds more contemporary (as contemporary as an 80's song could be really) than LIANT.

This track slipped by me back then. Not a bad tune, nice melody, but a bit "synthesizer heavy" for me, but that was a very common thing in many songs at the time.
I like LIANT a lot more.

I've gotta go with Ken on this one. I like "Northern Town" much better.

I like them both equally, honestly. They have slightly different sounds, but I don't really prefer one over the other. I like the synth sound, but I'm a new-wave head, so that's to be expected. ;D But at least you got exposed to something new; good, bad, or indifferent.

I didn't hear "Love Parade" at the time, and it's probably been only a time or two that I've heard it at all.
I'm with Matt - I like this one better than "Life in a Northern Town." The "dark" sound and the breathy, ethereal vocals are great.

I'd say I prefer "Life in a Northern Town"- more melodic, and I find the percussion on this song distracting. I'm glad you posted it here- I'd never heard of it before. And the background vocals are neat.
