Indeed. The Day the Music Died. I think we have had a couple of threads over the years here on The Click discussing what might have been if the plane had not crashed. On another item on the link: 1945: Johnny Cymbal, Derek Johnny Cymbal and Derek were actually the same person, explaining why they were born on the same day! I knew this from back in the '60s, but confirmed it on Wikipedia today. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Cymbal

Similarly, Dave Davies (the Kinks) and Melanie are actually the same person. This is not widely known. ;D
1967: Joe Meek shot and killed his landlady and then himself.

The first Buddy Holly song I ever heard was "That'll Be The Day" thanks to "American Graffiti" then I heard Linda Ronstadt's cover of "It Doesn't Really Matter Anymore" when I bought the 45 of "When Will I Be Loved."
A little while later I discovered "Words Of Love" was a Buddy Holly track courtesy of The Beatles!
A couple of years ago, I watched a Joe Meek documentary someone had posted on Youtube - don't know if it's still there but it was very good!
