This is one that never quite made it big... I was surprised to see that it never made the top 40.
I remember hearing it for the first time on a rock station out of Sioux City while my track kids were working out...and I loved it from that very first time...but it came and went quickly once "Varsity Blues" stopped running in theaters. I suppose it is one of those songs that slipped between the cracks in syndicated radio programming, like my #2...
Hey! It's my list! I can put two if I wanna!
This song is absolutely haunting (it is about naive young girls going to California to become stars, but wind up prostitutes or dead--amazing stuff from a perv such as John Phillips)...and probably my all time favorite M & P song...but since it missed the top ten, it is shunned.

A lot of my favourite songs coming out lately are from Australia and the UK...and 9 times out of 10, they never chart here in North America.
My opinion...this one should have.

This would definitely be the top song in this category, as it is NEVER played on the radio, and doesn't even have an original version on YouTube - just a couple idiots singing it in Karaoke. I am providing a link to the song on Grooveshark. If it doesn't work, I recommend you try to find it yourself. It's Badfinger's "Lonely You" listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Lonely+You/1W6jB6?src=5
