1957: Buddy Knox is inducted into the Army Reserve, leading his record label to rush him into the studio to record no less than twenty followups to his hit "Party Doll." None make the charts.
This statement surprises me. It either is incorrect or needs some explanation. At the risk of sounding like Lynn, Buddy Knox had three top 20 hits in 1957: Party Doll (#1), Rock Your Little Baby To Sleep (#17), and Hula Love (#9). So either those other two songs were recorded earlier (or later, I suppose - he WAS only in the reserve) or it was a different label/studio - or the statement iis just plain wrong.
Buddy sang for Roulette Records back in the '50s. In fact his group, The Rhythm Orchids, had the first two Roulette releases: Buddy's Party Doll and Jimmy Bowen's I'm Sticking With You (Jimmy was the Rhythm Orchids bass player).
I have Hula Love and I seem to remember it on a blue label. Roulette was maroon back then. I may have a repressing, or maybe he did some stuff for a different label. I will try to remember to get this straightened out when I get home tonight.
