Not only is this from my childhood...I SAW this broadcast on television!
The master of funk, rewriting music and television history...live and dominating Sesame Street for seven minutes! With an encore! No way that could happen now--the bean counters wouldn't allow it.
Plus the little kid dancing on the fire escape is now an internet legend...many claim it is a very young Lenny Kravitz.
I just remember being a very white trash Nebraska farm kid in 1972...and realizing that things are changing for the better. A seminal moment.

All right...so this song is from a movie that came out three years before I was born. But, it was also one of the first movies I can remember being allowed to stay up late to watch. It's one of my mom's favourite movies, and she insisted I watch it when it aired as the Saturday Night movie back in 1985 or 1986...I was real young and managed to stay up for the whole thing.

I remember this from as far back as I can remember. Maybe the earliest music I remember. What's more, I own the very same picture record shown in the YouTube Clip. (I also own three or four more vogue picture records (78 rpm natch!)

I remember coming home after school and watching this. To this day, it's still one of my all time favorite TV theme songs. It's short, but it's good!
