Current score:
DJDave 42 Sat 30 Pete 27 Dawn 26 dodger 25 Railyn 19 Rali 15 KittyKat 11 Boogieman 5 Everybody Else 0
This is a tought one. As usual, 5 points for naming the theme and getting the three songs.
An additional point if you can tell me what is unique about the three key items in the three songs.
And an additional point if you can tell me what the only other item would fit into the unique category.
Example: if one song had the number two in it, another had the number six, and a third had the number eight, the theme could be numbers under ten. The unique thing is they're all under ten and divisible by two. The other unique item would then be the number 4.
BTW, today's theme has nothing to do with numbers. ;D
Todays artists:
Neil Diamond The Bee Gees Billy Joel.
Theme is not in one or more of the titles.
I'll be leaving for the Skins/Pats game now, and will be back on line at about 6 PM. Just post your answers, and the first correct one wins.
Name that theme!

It's a long shot:
You Don't Bring Me Flowers Too Much Heaven It's My Life
Problem is, I don't know what they have in common. They're not all duets, they're not all break-up songs, they're not all love songs. And I'm sure I'm wrong anyway, but I did find an interesting tidbit:
All 3 were in the top 4 songs for January 1979. (numbers 4, 1, and 3 respectively). The number 2 song: Le Freak by Chic.

No Railyn. That is not it.
BTW, in name that theme, the theme will NEVER have to do with when a song is on the charts or anything like that.

OK.... 24 hours have come and gone, and still no winner.
Time for another clue.
...well... I'd give you a clue, but I don't want to state the obvious.

This is definitely a stumper....I've been trying to figure it out for 2 days now and I have nothing really. I've even enlisted my mother's help. I'm sure when the theme is eventually revealed it will seem painfully obvious.
A long shot... Theme: songs about wanting to return "home" on the East Coast?
Neil Diamond - "I Am I Said" Lyric: Well I'm New York City born and raised But nowadays, I'm lost between two shores L.A.'s fine, but it ain't home New York's home, but it ain't mine no more
Billy Joel - "NY State of Mind" Lyric: I seen all the movie stars in their fancy cars and their limousines, Been high in the Rockies under the evergreens, But I know what I'M needing and I don't want to waste more time I'm in a New York state of mind.
Bee Gees - "Massachusetts" Lyric: Feel I'm goin' back to Massachusetts, Something's telling me I must go home.
I know this isn't it...

This is indeed a stumper, Kitty. -- Your answer is not right.... but since it is so difficult, I'll say this to you and all the other players: Kitty is more or less on the right track -- kind of. Read my last clue, and read Kitty's answers. There are two ways to look at my clue and Kitty's answers together. One will lead you astray, the other will lead you down the right path. Now all this probably confuses everybody even more. Oh well......

Ok
Well, I AmI Said talks about New York
So does New York State Of Mind
So does New York Mining Disaster
so they all mention New York.
There's also Nights On Broadway.
There's also Allentown. (that's where my husband is from).
And Say Goodbye To Hollywood. So those mention places not necessarily on the east coast.
How about songs about bouncing between California and the east coast (or anywhere else for that matter)?
I Am I Said Say Goodbye To Hollywood Massachusets (about hitching a ride to SanFrancisco)
And if that's the case, you could also apply New York State Of Mind (seen all the movie stars in their fancy cars and their limousenes), or Allentown (we're waiting here in Allentown for the Pennsylvania we never found)
So let's try to get this straight:
They talk about wanting to go home. Specifically, being on the west coast and heading back to the east coast.
They also mention states.
Do you enjoy torturing us?
Plus Neil Diamond has a song that talks about America as a whole. SO THERE! I'm going to bed now......

I ought to give you a few points just for your argument. -- But I won't. ;D There's a new clue coming up in a couple of hours. But one thing-- remember all songs are Billboard Top 40 songs. I don't believe New York State of Mind is top 40. (Yeah, I know I used it in the 9/11 game, but that was special). Another thing. Both you and Kitty are all around the theme. - The theme itself is not that complex.

OK. For the first time in Name That Theme, we're going to a third day. This is a tough one, but Kitty and Railyn are both on the right track. -- sort of. -- Both are making it more difficult than it really is, however.
Remember yesterday's clue that said:
"I'd give you a clue, but I don't want to state the obvious."
Also remember that all songs are top 40 so that "New York State of Mind" is incorrect.
Todays clue:
Both Kitty and Railyn had one song right.
Game is worth 3 points -- but there are still two bonus points out there:
An additional point if you can tell me what is unique about the three key items in the three songs.
And an additional point if you can tell me what the only other item would fit into the unique category.
But it isn't worth trying to go after those until you have the theme and the three songs.

Hey -- what's with you guys?? I gave you a big clue. I said that both Railyn and Kitty had one song right. Since Kitty only guessed three songs, and I already said that one can't be NY State of Mind (not top 40), that means that one of the songs HAS to be either: I Am I Said by Neil Diamond or Massachusetts by The Bee Gees. (but not both) So you guys are losing time-and points. Tomorrow it's down to two points, then one on Thursday. So it needs to be answered by Friday, or it's LIGHTS OUT!

You got the theme right (nearly) - but it's not just any states. Keep on going... give me the 3 songs. No, Allentown is not one of them.
