Well, this will probably go down as one of the less exciting years, but there is inductee that is overdue that's going in! Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five R.E.M. The Ronettes Patti Smith Van Halen!!!!!!!! And they list all five members. Guess maybe Gary Cherone will be driving the limo. Here's the link from the Hall's official site- www.rockhall.com/museum/releases.asp?id=2544

FIGURES about R.E.M. And I'm willing to bet either Bono or Springsteen is going to induct them... GLAD to see the Ronettes going finally, and VH is well deserved. But, well, you know my feelings on Rolling Stone and the Hall...

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five eh!
R.E.M. I like a few of their songs but I'm not a huge fan, I can think of so many other bands that deserve to be inducted way before Michael and the guys.
The Ronettes Very nice to see.
Patti Smith Not a fan.
Van Halen!!!!!!!! Excellent!!!

Grandmaster Flash? R&R HOF entry to someone who has promoted music that has tried to KILL R&R ?? I'm sorry! Rock is not about mixing some other people's work. This guy is nothing more than a glorified wedding DJ. Other than that he is deserving of the hall. REM. Well, -- maybe. --- What's the Frequency of alternative rockers getting in? Ronettes - 'Bout time! Maybe Ronnie was married to Mr. Psycho, and maybe the Spector Wall of Sound had a lot to do with their success, but IMO, it was NOT Diana, it was NOT Darlene, it was not even Aretha who was the female sound of soul in the '60s. It was Ronnie and the Ronettes. Patti Smith - I don't know a lot of her music, but what I know I like. No real opinion here. Van Halen - Deserving. But could Eddie go in alone? No Eddie, no group. ---- No anybody else (including DLR)? No problem. *********************************** I just read what I said about VH, and even I couldn't understand it. I meant that Eddie Van Halen could go into the HOF himself. The additional contribution from ANY of the other members INCLUDING David Lee pales in comparison.

I totally agree with this Ken. I can think of about 10 other groups that should go in before REM.
I don't have any problems with the other inductees. Whether I like their music or not I feel that they're all deserving. Should be an interesting ceremony.

FIGURES about R.E.M. And I'm willing to bet either Bono or Springsteen is going to induct them... I like REM a lot, but it doesn't seem like they've been around THAT long, and there are lot of bands who have been around longer that aren't in yet. Heck, I don't put a whole lot of stock in the HOF. I don't know what their criteria is? are? for who is inducted. I don't think I've ever even watched the ceremonies.

Don't get me wrong, I do like some of their early stuff, as well as "Automaric For The People". But I still see them as part of that group of Jann Wenner ass-kissers that were inevitably going to get in because they're critics darlings.

Yeah, I have heard that there is a lot of, uh, figurative smooching of other people's derrieres going on there. (And I have to be careful what I say right now, because my almost-9-year-old is sitting here looking over my shoulder waiting to play a game!)

That's the thing, the Hall is all about the critics, not the fans. Those of us who were THERE in the 80's know that VERY FEW people were listening to REM. More people were listening to Motley Crue, and I won't hold my breath waiting for THEM to get in...

It's disappointing how many great bands are overlooked (Chicago, Moodies, ELO, etc) simply because of a few rock critics' personal biases. I'm admittedly not that familiar with REM, but as others have mentioned, there is a long list of artists that deserve the honor first. As for the others, glad to see Van Halen and the Ronettes finally getting the nod. I only know one song from Patti, so I can't really say, although I've read that a lot of artists acknowledge her as an influence. Grandmaster Flash - no.

I remember when "Be My Baby" was in the top 10. Still a favorite. I'm glad they're in this year.

She's been making music for a good while now...same deal with Grandmaster Flash and Van Halen. I used to be a huge fan of R.E.M., and I agree that they should be in there too...but try as I might, I can't get into anything they released after 1994...
