First I'd like to say, thank you to everyone for putting up with my long and obnoxious post about Martina yesterday! We all have artists we are passionate about and we give longer write ups to them, and that was great to do. You all had to know that was coming as we got into the M's! LOL! BTW-I'll have new post about her on the country board in a minute!! One thing I neglected to say was that I like and respect the way she blends traditional country with a current pop sensibility. Ok, enough. Here we go for today! Reba McIntire-And the first artist is one of Martina's best friends and influences! They have even toured together as part of the Girls Night Out tour. My wife is a bigger fan than I am however, having her second and third greatest hits albums, plus an earlier disc. I lean more towards the artists with a bit more of a pop/rock sound. But I certainly respect her for staying pure country in sound and for all her Female Vocalists of the Year awards she racked up year after year. Until Martina of course. But seriously, I even don't mind her TV show! A female country legend. Faves-Fancy, I'm a Survivor. M.C. Hammer-The greatest thing he ever did in his career was that TV show last fall, Surreal Life! I have also seen him in I believe insurance commerials! PURE pop rap. I have to admit, after hearing it so much I didn't MIND U Can't Touch This just cuz it was so darn catchy! But nowadays, no thanks. Faves-none. Meatloaf-I remember seeing the video to Bat Out of Hell, and with a title like that, the loud singing, and Loaf's long hair, I thought he was pure metal! That album is a legendary piece, and I finally picked it up on disc (with 2 bonus tracks) when Best Buy had it for like $5! So many great songs-great memories of dating my wife and You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth. And just TRY going to a wedding without hearing Paradise By the Dashboard Lights by the end of the night! Bat II nowhere NEAR as good! Faves-Paradise By the Dashboard Lights, You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad. Melanie-Two hits that I know of. I am sure Brand New Key has to annoy some people. I like Lay Down better myself. She was pretty cute from what I have seen. Ever wonder what people like her are doing now?? Faves-Lay Down (Candles in the Wind), Brand New Key. *NOTE* Did we do Mellencamp as part of Cougar?? I remember making a decision back then, but I don't remember what it was! LOL!! If not, we'll do him tomorrow. Men at Work-I remember really digging them when they came out, getting the singles to Who Can it Be Now? AND Down Under. And then I even loved B. Good Johnnie! Never bought their albums, but ended up getting their first two out of my neighbor's trash! LOL! (Yes Dawn, same neighbor! ) They were one of the better new 80s bands. Faves-Overkill, Down Under, Who Can it Be Now? And you?

Your post wasn't obnoxious at all! As you say, we all have artists that we truly love, and we're eager to share information about them with others who might enjoy their music. Reba McEntire - Like you, I tend to prefer country artists with a bit of a pop edge, more of a crossover type sound. Reba was most popular at a time when I wasn't listening to country music much, so there's a lot of her songs I'm not familiar with. But she has a good voice, and she's quite talented as an actress as well. Favorites: You Lift Me Up to Heaven (love that one!), Little Rock, Fancy, Whoever's in New England. M.C. Hammer - Never got into him. Meat Loaf - I've never heard Bat Out of Hell all the way through - one of these days I need to investigate. He and Jim Steinman worked well together, and created some memorable hits. Favorite: Two Out of Three Ain't Bad. Melanie - Good songwriter with a very distinctive voice. Aside from 'Brand New Key', her songs are pretty much ignored by the radio these days. Favorites: Lay Down, Brand New Key. Men at Work - Loved these guys in my high school days, and still do today! I remember they used to perform on Solid Gold every so often. All of their singles are great! MORE great albums from that neighbor?! That was quite a find that day! I'm jealous! LOL! Favorites: It's a Mistake, Dr. Heckyll and Mr. Jive, Down Under, Who Can It Be Now?, Overkill.

I don't know, Sat. I guess now that you've done Martina (so to speak) its all downhill from here.
Reba McIntire- She's OK, but her voice is a little too country for me.
M.C. Hammer- Don't really care for him. Again I prefer the Weird Al parody - Can't Watch This. Meatloaf- Great voice! 2 out of 3 Ain't Bad is in my all time Top 50. Paradise by the Dashboard Light (in my Top 250) is one of the most brilliant pieces of pop music writing of all time, IMO. Also like I Would Do Anything For Love and You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth.
Melanie- Kinda a little girl voice. Pleasant to listen to. Faves: Brand New Key, The Nickel Song, Ring The Living Bell, Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)
Men at Work- Really only like Down Under

Reba - Yay! My roomate/best friend Doug absolutely loves her and has seen her like 20 times in concert. I was familiar with Fancy when it came out but Doug has since turned me on to a lot more of her music. I just love her voice and I like listening to her in the car. I could listen to "Till You Love Me" on a continuous loop. Faves: Till You Love Me, Does He Love You, Whoever's In New England, Only In My Mind, Fancy, You Lie
MC Hammer - His music isn't all that bad actually. I don't listen to it or own any of it but I don't turn it off if I hear it. And boy does he have stage presence. I loved him on that "Surreal Life" show. Faves: Turn This Mutha Out, Let's Get It Started
Meatloaf - Over the top, kitschy, anthemic, obnoxious...these are adjectives that come to mind. I've never really been able to get into the operatic classic rock of Meatloaf. I always want the songs to end like 4 minutes before they actually do. Funny story...back in college I worked for the school's Business Administration. One day I caught my seemingly uptight and staid boss singing and dancing around to "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" as he had Bat Out Of Hell cranked up on his office stereo. We were both so embarrassed for him that it took WEEKS for us to be able to make eye contact. Back to Meatloaf...what was up with the lyrics of his comeback hit "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)"? So confusing...
Melanie - I hate Brand New Key, it makes me grind my teeth. And because of this I've never given any of her other stuff a listen or a chance.
Men At Work - Great group. I still listen to them a lot. Well, really only the Cargo album. I dig Colin Hay's voice. Faves: Overkill, No Sign Of Yesterday, It's A Mistake, Who Can It Be Now?, Catch A Star
BTW - I don't remember you doing Mellencamp under "Cougar" but I have a bad memory.

Your Martina post wasn't long at all ! You really love her music and there's nothing wrong with listening to great music - she's a talented lady. Reba McEntire - I haven't listened to her lately but I do have quite a few songs on tape (from doing all those DJ gigs) my cousin's wife is a huge fan . She has a pretty good voice and she certainly has had alot of success over the years . Yeah I've seen her TV show too! Faves: Little Rock , What Am I Gonna Do About You , Why Haven't I Heard From You , How Was I To Know and Love Will Find it's Way To You. MC Hammer - I grew tired of U Can't Touch This quite quickly at the time - and was really tired of those parachute pants - yikes! LOL . I don't mind hearing it now but only in small doses please. Faves - None Meatloaf - Quite a few of my cousin's had the album back in the day(my brother had the Paradise 45) so through them and of course radio I heard it many times . A buddy of mine REALLY got into the album in High School big time! Yes I played the hits all the time at weddings - always had the tape handy LOL . I've never tired of the songs though they still sound great. I found a SEALED copy( wow who would have thought with the millions that it sold) on vinyl for $2 . Faves : Bat Out of Hell , Two Out of Three Ain't Bad , You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth ( that chorus is so damn catchy!) and Paradise By The Dashboard Light. Melanie - She apparently has a new album out from what I understand ( I should double check that) . Even at 5 years of age I hated l Brand New Key - ugh , groan , Yuck . Lay Down is Ok I guess . I agree she was cute though. Men At Work - I remember one of our local DJ's at the time raving about Who Can it Be Now when it first came out . It was good! bought the 45 right away , a buddy had the first two albums so I recorded the hits on to a mix tape at the time - It's still great to listen to. Faves: Who Can It Be Now , Down Under , It's a Mistake , Overkill and Dr. Heckyl and Mr.Jive Sorry for being so long winded today! LOL I believe you covered John already. I wish I had neighbors like that

Reba McIntyre - For a country artist, Reba's not so bad. If I hear her on the radio, I don't immediately change the station like I would other country artists. But I still can't name any songs by her that I like or dislike. The only song I do know, because I was listening to it last weekend is Since I Fell for You, her duet with Natalie Cole on the Rhythm, Country, & Blues CD. They do a great job together on that song.
M.C. Hammer - Did a couple songs (probably more), but I can't remember them now.
Meatloaf - Had a girlfriend in 1979 who thought Meatloaf was the "bee's knees". Once I heard the album, I was hooked. Power, energy, great lyrics, great vocals, one of my favorite albums ever. I think I remember hearing once that this was the album that knocked Saturday Night Fever out of number one on the album charts. None of his other albums ever measured up to his first one. Favorites: Bat out of Hell, Two out of Three Ain't Bad, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights, Rock & Roll Dreams, I'll do Anything for Love. Melanie - Melanie was cute, but had the obnoxious voice that grated on you after a while. Got real tired of hearing Brand New Key over & over in the Fall of '71. Favorites: Peace Will Come, The Nickel Song Men at Work - One of the few bands I actually liked in the early 80s. Down Under & Dr. Heckyll & Mr. Jive were fun songs and probably my favorites.

We had to put up with your post about Martina yesterday , so now you'll have to bear with me and mine about Reba (although mine about Bette will be longer!): First off, ya spelled her name wrong. McEntire, not McIntire, but that's alright. I forgive you. ;D Moving on...I have been a fan of Reba for as long as I can remember. I was raised on country music, and I loved her from the time I first heard her voice. I abandoned country music when I was about 12. I thought it was "uncool". It happens to all of us. We need to renew our love for country at some point to keep us going, I think. Anyway, when I started listening to country again about a year and a half ago, I automatically went to Reba first. There's just something about her you can't help but love. She's so adorable with that accent of hers, and I've always been a stickler for redheads anyway, so that just makes me love her even more! She's such a wonderful singer, a good strong Christian, and her family is also important to her! Hmm, like Martina! I love her music. Typical country, as some would say, but I don't care...it's Reba!! I remember whenever her band's plane crashed. Wow, what a tragedy. It's amazing how much she's been through. I mean, you couldn't tell it from the way she carries on so beautifully. And her TV show? So, so funny! My third favorite show on TV right now. I watch it every week. Never miss an episode! My favorite character is Kira, the middle child. She's so sarcastic and rude, and I love it. Ha ha. Anyway, this isn't a TV board so I'll save it for somewhere else. Faves - every song on her It's Your Call album, Fancy, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, The Fear of Being Alone, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, If You See Him, Forever Love, She Thinks His Name Was John, The Heart Won't Lie, Does He Love You, You Lie, Why Haven't I Heard From You, I'm a Survivor, How Was I to Know, What If, What If It's You...hmmm, that's all I can think of, LOL. And I can't believe you didn't list this as one of your faves, Adam - On My Own, with Martina, Trisha Yearwood, and Linda Davis!!! For shame!

Reba McEntyre-My big memory of Reba was her singing at one of the Wrestlemanias about 10-15 years ago (I can't remember which one, I just remember Bobby Heenan's joke about her getting together with Tito Santana and becoming "Arriba McEntyre")
M.C. Hammer-For a rap artist, his stuff was tollerable, and he seemed like a genuinely nice guy. It's too bad people took advantage of his generocity, and eventually turned on him..
Meatloaf-I never got into him, but I always respected him as a performer. I hear he is one of the most energenic performers ever! Jim Steinman is one weird dude, hard to believe he's written for Air Supply AND The Sisters Of Mercy! There's diversity!!
Melanie-I Love Candles In The Rain, but Brand New Key grates on my nerves.
Men At Work-Love 'em! The first two albums were "must have" albums in my 6th grade class. Very few people remember their third album from '85 called "Two Hearts", with it's single "Everything I Need".

"Talk about sick shows, there's America's Funniest Home Videos. I can't believe my eyes when I see the kind of stuff that wins first prize. Somebody's poor old mom falls down off the roof, lands right on the lawn, face first - on a rake. I hear they got it on the 17th take. Thats as funny as a kick in the crotch, and that's the reason why, uh, I can't watch" ;D ;D
**Sorry, got carried away with myself**
Anyway, you went shorter on Martina than I would have on Al, or several other artists.
As for Reba, I am not a country fan, so I have to pass on that one.
Hammer - he had a heart of gold. He did pop rap because he was a preacher, and didn't believe in gangsta rap, but he gave all his money away, and went back to being a preacher. I didn't really like his music, but I respected him, and felt sorry for him when the rap community turned their back on him. My favorite is "2 Legit 2 Quit". When I was at Youngstown State, this was our football team's theme song. We played it in band constantly, and we had a little dance thing for it. We won the national championship that year, and several years after. The coach, Jim Tressel, went on to coach Ohio State to a national Championship and undefeated season, and......."STOP! PRIME TIME! I'm pretty sure I'll be sick if I have to watch another stupid pet trick or that guy with the real flat head that goes woof woof woof and waves his fist in the air. Those weird talk shows about transe*ual nazi eskimoes. They're rude, crude and vile. Just for a minute, let's flip down the dial....FLIP FLIP FLIP..... EWWW!";D ;D**sorry about that - got carried away again**
The Loaf - my cousin who watched me when I was little had the 8-track. Didn't like anything on his 90's release, but Bat Out Of Hell is great. Favorites: "All Reved Up, No Place To Go" and "What Ever Happened To Saturday Night? (Hot Patootie)".
Melanie - I don't care if she has brand new roller skates......
Men At Work - great group. Favorite: "It's A Mistake"
