Very late start on here today, but I'm doing better than I have been, so that's a good thing..... Requests from Kathy and Dave. Frank Sinatra-From Kathy. Ok, I know, Chairman of the Board, this and that....I don't think much of him. For one thing, he said some REALLY crappy things about Rock music and Elvis in the early years. Didn't stop him from then having Elvis on his shows and covering Rock songs when he saw that was what the people wanted. Plus I don't get all the young people that dig him but make fun of 60's rock. I mean, at the bar we used to hang at, you'd hear Bush, U2, STP, etc, and then "The Summer Wind, came blowin' in....." What is that?? Having said that, My Way is great. I have composed a video of my life so far in my head to this song. Nancy Sinatra-Another request from Kathy. Ever see her album covers? OUCH!! Boots is a cool song, and that's all I know. And those album covers! Fave-These Boots Are Made For Walkin'. Percy Sledge-Kathy again. Only know When a Man...Another one of those "Yes it's a classic, but I have heard it enough in my life" songs. Fave-When a Man Loves a Woman (I guess). Smashing Pumpkins-Fully intended on including them, but I forgot until Dave pointed it out. I was annoyed by Disarm when it came out, mostly because of his voice. But I was in denial of all new music then. Recorded the third best version of Landslide. Absolutely LOVE 1979. Such a cool song, cool music, even enjoy his voice on that one. Their greatest hits disc was all I needed. Faves-1979, Tonight, Tonight, Disarm. J.D. Souther-Prolific songwriter of the early 70's. In with the whole Eagles/Jackson Browne California rock clan. You're Only Lonely, while sounding like an Orby title, actually SOUNDS a bit like Roy. Also had a nice duet with JT. Faves-Her Town Too (With James Taylor), You're Only Lonely. And you?

Frank Sinatra - For years I couldn't stand the man. I really had no reason to feel this way, it was just one of those things. You know, like, I don't like Gwyneth Paltrow. Oh, wait. I do have a reason for that... But I digress. Now I love Frank, although I think that vocally, there are better. But he was quite a showman, and that's what makes him so great. Plus, his days with the Rat Pack. Oy. I mean, who doesn't love the Rat Pack? Faves - Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words), New York New York, can't think of any more right now.
Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Are Made For Walkin' is the only one I know. Personally, I think she only did fairly well in the business because Daddy pulled his weight with the record execs, but I don't know. Maybe if I gave her a chance she'd be alright. Fave - These Boots Are Made For Walkin'
Percy Sledge - The only song of his I've ever heard is When A Man Loves A Woman. I prefer Bette Midler's version. ;D Faves - none.
Smashing Pumpkins - I don't know a lot of their stuff, but from what I can tell they're pretty great. I know the bassist from Hole left the group when she was asked to join the Pumpkins. So that says a lot for them right there. Billy Corgan kind of scares me though...
J.D. Souther - Never heard of him...or her, whichever.

Frank Sinatra-Not what I would listen to, but a legend regardless. He put down rock n' roll, but then again ALL the old timers did back then. He covered "Something" and referred to it as a Lennon/McCartney song, so he obviously didn't do his homework.
Nancy Sinatra-Hubba Hubba! I like her hits beyond "Boots", such as "Sugar Town", "Lady Bird", "Some Velvet Morning", etc...
Percy Sledge-Never liked "When A Man..." Don't care if it's a "classic", Never liked it..
Smashing Pumpkins-OK by 90's standards. Used to get annoyed when I'd go into a guitar shop and 13 year old kids would grab a guitar and play the riff to "Today" or Nirvanas "Smells Like Teen Spirit". So I'd grab an acoustic and play something like Yes' "Mood For A Day", and their jaws would be on the ground, going "WOW, you're good!". I'd be like "Yeah, because in MY day, you had to know more than 3 chords!" I'm so mean.... ;D
J.D. Souther-I know his two hits, the duet and "You're Only Lonely. Both good!

Glad you're feeling better Adam Frank Sinatra - Along with Dean Martin's music I've started to appreciate it more as I've gotten older. Faves - Fly Me To The Moon , Summer Wind , I've Got You Under My Skin , My Way , Something Stupid , and I Get a Kick Out Of You Nancy Sinatra - Yes I've seen a few of her album covers -nice! We had the 45 of Sugar Town and Summer Wine in the house so I heard it often. Faves - These Boots Are Made For Walkin' , Summer Wine and Sugar Town . Percy Sledge - I also am only familiar with When a Man Loves a Woman - I have it on 45 I believe. Good Tune But I'm kind of tired of it. Faves - When a Man Loves a Woman Smashing Pumpkins - Didn't really care for them at all I guess 1979 was OK I just found Billy's voice to thin and whiny. Faves - none JD Souther - Excellent singer / songwriter . Her Town Too was fantastic.Loved both Souther, Hillman , Furay band albums as well Faves - Only The Lonely and Her Town Too

Frank Sinatra - "I'm going to sing some songs that the young people will enjoy on my next album. I'm calling it "Frank Sings Songs The Young People Will Enjoy"". I'll pass on him as an artist, but he made for great entertainment on SNL. The Sinatra Group was a classic! "Next topic: what's with the nudity on the MTV and this crap? Your thoughts Bill Idol?" "I think it's great" "And you, Sine-aid (O'connor)?" "Well, I think it's disgusting.."(cut off) "Yeah, yeah cry me a river (faking playing violin). Luther Campbell?" "That's my bread and butter, man" "Can't hear a thing, it's all pops and clicks. Steve and Edie?" "Whatever you say, Frank!" "Ok, next topic: Ava Gardner or (can't remember here): Who'd you rather nail? I did 'em both so I gotta disqualify myself from this one".
Nancy Sinatra - she was ok, but I don't know if she'd have been so popular if not for her dad.
Percy Sledge - not a big fan
Smashing Pumpkins - Billy Corrigan is a bit odd. Favorites: Tonight, Tonight , Bullet With Butterfly Wings, 1979
JD Souther - You're Only Lonely is passable. Don't like Her Town.

Frank Sinatra - Frank is one of those artists that I couldn't really picture myself liking when I was younger, but like Ken, I've grown to like his music more in recent years. Favorites: It Was a Very Good Year (so haunting, and I love the part about "when I was 35" , Summer Wind, My Way, New York, New York, Strangers in the Night. Nancy Sinatra - I'm only familiar with a few of her hits, but I like what I've heard. Favorites: These Boots Are Made for Walkin', Sugar Town. Percy Sledge - 'When A Man Loves a Woman' is really well done. I can't place any of his other songs, though. Smashing Pumpkins - This is another of those groups I know I've heard many times, but can't recall many specific titles. I agree, '1979' is a great song. J.D. Souther - You're right, his voice is reminiscent of Roy's - with a similar range and phrasing. Both singles are excellent, as well as 'Fallin' in Love' by the Souther, Hillman, Furay Band.

Lookin' good! Frank Sinatra--Fully agree with you Sat--the young generation liking this and not the 70's soft rock/pop? What's UP with that? Plus he's never been out of the spotlight of fine entertainers for over 60 years now. Sure, he died 5 years ago, but his death hardly moved me. Even my mom doesn't like him too much. I'd MUCH rather listen to Bing Crosby, Perry Como, and especially Doris Day and Dinah Shore! Still, I can't deny the man's legend, and he's had SOME good songs. Steveman and Kellykoop from the ol' YL club, I dedicate this one for you! Faves: Somethin' stupid (with Nancy) (LOVE the orchestration) All or nothing at all Five minutes more Love and marriage That's life (cool organ) Learnin' the blues Young at heart New York, New York High hopes Chicago Saturday night is the loneliest night of the week My way (My dad absolutely LOVES this) I've got the world on a string Come fly with me Strangers in the night (Doo be doo be doo...) Love is the tender trap Night and day Fly me to the moon The lady is a tramp Hey jealous lover Three coins in the fountain Nice 'n easy Nancy with the laughing face It was a very good year Luck be a lady I get a kick out of you All the way Mam'selle I've got you under my skin Summer wind Witchcraft From here to eternity Birth of the blues Cycles Me and my shadow (Hmmm...more than I thought!) Nancy Sinatra--Unquestionably, my fave today! That mean ol' sex kitten! ;D Love most of her hits A LOT, have her Rhino CD. Most songs should go WAY up on my updated CRAZY list in a couple years. Faves: (Big list!) These boots are made for walkin' (ETERNAL top 300, I NEVER tire of it!) Sugar town Somethin' stupid (with Frank) Lightning's girl (WOA, OH, OH!) Some velvet morning (The Phaedra song, with Lee Hazlewood) Jackson (with Lee Hazlewood) Summer wine (with Lee) How does that grab you darlin' You only live twice Love eyes (Not on any of her vinyl albums) Lady bird (with Lee) Friday's child So long babe Hook and ladder Big boss man Vagabond shoes Tony Rome Younger than springtime Sand If he'd love me Things Run for your life Elusive dreams It ain't me babe Oh you beautiful doll Here we go again Lies 100 years Light my fire God knows I love you What'll I do Not the lovin' kind For once in my life Percy Sledge--very overlooked soul singer today. Much more than his debut smash "Woman". I do tire of it sometimes, but it's a soul masterpiece nonetheless. Other top 40 hits were good, too. Faves: When a man loves a woman Take time to know her It tears me up Warm and tender love Cover me Out of left field Just out of reach Smashing Pumpkins--liked them long before they really took off big. "Gish" from 1991 is GREAT. Not too hard for alternative, not minding Billy's voice too much. Seems like a lot of the good 90's bands have broken up; this was one of them. RIP Jonathan Melvoin. Faves: 1979 The end is the beginning is the end (from Batman and Robin film) Ava adore Daydream Suffer I am one Bullet with butterfly wings Bury me Tonight, tonight Perfect Drown Today Landslide Zero Disarm Thirty-three Window paine Muzzle Crush Cherub rock Luna Rhinoceros Eye We only come out at night Heavy metal machine Believe Fristessa Take me down Mellon collie and the infinite sadness God X.Y.U. Marquis in spades Transformer Rotten apples Pastichio medley Blue For Martha Pug Stand inside your love Soma Mouths of babes Silverf-ck Rocket The everlasting gaze Hello Kitty Kat Snail Bodies Spaceboy Pennies The aeroplane flies high J.D. Souther--good singer I know surprisingly little about. Only recall hearing "Falling in love" from 1974 a couple times. But his 2 biggies are great, have both on CD. Faves-- You're only lonely Her town too (with James Taylor) Fallin' in love (Souther Hillman Furay Band) (not the Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds tune)

Frank Sinatra - Bought a greatest hits vinyl years ago just to have something in my collection by him. My son thinks he's great. Favorites: Strangers in the Night, That's Life, My, New York New York
Nancy Sinatra - Nancy was fun to watch on the variety shows in the 60s. Muscially, I only like Theses Boots are Made for Walking.
Percy Sledge - When a Man Loves a Woman has become a rock standard and shows up on most sixties compilations and most greatest romantic songs compilations. Maybe a little overplayed but a good song. Other Favorite: Warm & Tender Love.
Smashing Pumpkins - Don't like them.
J. D. Souther - You're Only Lonely was a typical 70s cheesy ballad.

Frank Sinatra--Well, I requested him, but that doesn't mean I'm a big fan. LOL! Can't deny his legendary status. He certainly has his legions of fans, even 5 years after his death. There are a few songs of his I don't mind listening to on occasion, but nothing I can't live without. ;D Nancy Sinatra--She was quite a babe back in the day, wasn't she? Have you seen her lately? Ick. Anyway, I never paid much attention to many of her songs. I know "Boots", Sugar Town, and that creepy duet with her dad, "Something Stupid". That's about it. Percy Sledge--When a Man Loves a Woman is a great song. A classic. Having said that, I've heard it WAY too much. I also know "Take Time to Know Her", and I really like that. Wish it would get more airplay. Smashing Pumpkins--Can't stand Billy Corgan. I avoid the Pumpkins' music as much as possible. Blech! JD Souther--"You're Only Lonely" is an all time favorite of mine. He also sang another all time fave, "White Rhythm and Blues", which was also done by Linda Ronstadt. Hers was the version I knew first. I prefer Linda's, but Souther does a respectable job. Did he write that song? Just wondering...Oh yeah, Her Town Too is a good song, too.

I wasn't able to get online yesterday so I missed this list and it includes one of my favorite artists. Frank Sinatra - I hear your criticism, but I love him! He had an amazing gift for vocal arrangement. That's why so many of our great standards that have been recorded hundreds of times, sounded uniquely "his" when he performed them. Case in point his version of the standard "Where or When" which he starts out soft and low and gradually builds up to this amazing crescendo that brings tingles to your spine. Anyway, I always make sure to have at least one Frank cd in the car so I can have it ready when I'm in that Sinatra mood. Faves: Where or When, One For My Baby, How 'Bout You?, Young At Heart, Fly Me To The Moon, Nice Work If You Can Get It, The Best Is Yet To Come, Lady Is A Tramp, I've Got You Under My Skin Nancy Sinatra - I like "Boots" but that's it. Faves: These Boots Were Made For Walkin' Percy Sledge - I hate "When A Man...". I like his more up tempo stuff. Faves: Love Me Like You Mean It, Put A Little Lovin' On Me Smashing Pumpkins - Hit or miss with me. I love some of their stuff and deeply hate other things. Billy Corgan seems a little too arrogant for his own good. Faves: 1979, Rhinoceros, Disarm, Landslide JD Souther - My fave on the list today. (Surprising huh since I just gushed about Frank above). Great songwriter and a great tenor voice. He wrote or co-wrote quite a few of the Eagles hits. I love his stuff. Faves: Sliver Blue, If You Have Crying Eyes, Her Town Too, Home By Dawn, Go Ahead And Rain, All I Want, You're Only Lonely, If You Don't Want My Love
