Dave pointed out one I forgot yesterday. I tend to forget 90's acts-even ones I like-when I don't have them listed in front of me. Stone Temple Pilots-One of my more fave 90's acts, and I forgot em! People call them Pearl Jam wannabes or whatever, but for about 2 and 1/2 albums, they had some good stuff. One of many acts at the time I didn't like, but picked up on them as they were starting to slide down. Stupid lyrics, I will say that. Faves-Interstate Love Song (number 10 on my all time list!), Vasoline (love this too), Plush. Stray Cats-Major act in the 50's revival of the mid 80's. Kindof surprised they didn't last longer. But Setzer came back-and sang even OLDER music! Honestly, I heard the hits even back then so I don't need to hear them now. Faves-(She's) Sexy & 17, Stray Cat Strut, Rock This Town. Barbara Streisand-Sort of a non rock legend of the rock era. Kindof surprising she had only 10 top 10 hits. Not really my style, but I respect her success. (SIDENOTE:Martina listed Barbara as one of the people in the biz she admires the most because she is in control of her own career!) I don't respect those concert prices though! Loved when she showed up on SNL that time surprising Mike Myers, Madonna and Roseanne. Ok, now get off my back Lora! J/K! Faves-Stoney End, Guilty (w/Barry Gibb), No More Tears (Enough is Enough). Stylistics-Ok, this is a style of music I TOTALLY don't like. I don't like the acts it influenced (Boys II Men, all the boy bands), but I don't like these originators any more. I took a lot that my dad liked (Cryan' Shames, Steely), but stuff like this and Sade, I just don't go along with. Just don't like the voices or the sound itself. Faves-none. Styx-The band critics love to hate. They are probably number two of all time in that category, after Grand Funk. So of course, we all love them here at the Click! Another artist, like Steely Dan, where if you like one song, you like em all because the sound is so similar. Same goes if you hate em. Most songs have that "ensemble" singing sound to them. I was actually laughed at for having the greatest hits part 2, but some of the best stuff is one there! Wish Dennis DeYoung would swallow his ego and remember he is a rock singer, not a theatre performer. Faves-Light Up, Lorelei, Superstars, Mademoiselle, Lady. And you?

Stone Temple Pilots - There's something about them that has always scared me, so I try to steer clear of them. But a few of their radio hits have been good. Stray Cats - Never heard anything by them, I don't believe, but I liked the Brian Setzer Orchestra. They were cool! Barbra Streisand - Ah, dear old Babs. I'm expecting a lot of bashing here today. BTW, I'll leave you alone now... ;D Oh, but that reminds me. I have another request when you get around to her--Pam Tillis. Thanks, Adam. Back to Babsy now. She is in total control of her career, and people answer to her. I think that is so awesome. She's a diva, and sometimes it shows just a little too much, but there's just something about her that I can't help but like. Obviously, I like Jewish girls, because Babs and Bette are both up there for me. Hey--nobody better knock Babs' nose either! I too liked the surprise appearance on Coffee Talk. That was awesome! Well, I could take up a whole other post talking about Barbra as an actress and director, but I'll just cover her singing like a good little girl. Bab's voice is so pure. She has probably the most pitch-perfect voice I have ever heard. Well, other than mine. LOL, just kidding. I love her Broadway covers most of all. Her voice just fits the genre. By the way, if you ever get a chance, you need to try to watch the episode of The Judy Garland Show that Babs guested on. She's very funny. She and Judy do a really cute monologue right before their infamous duet. Faves - Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again (w/ Jootes), Hooray For Love medley (also w/ Judy on her show), Papa, Can You Hear Me? (one of THE greatest vocal performances I have ever heard), I Finally Found Someone (w/ Bryan Adams), Tell Him (w/ Celine Dion), The Way We Were, Guilty (w/ Barry Gibb), Cry Me a River, No More Tears (Enough is Enough) (w/ Donna Summer), Evergreen, Second Hand Rose, The Main Event/Fight, Not While I'm Around, Send in the Clowns, My Heart Belongs To Me, All I Ask of You, Somewhere, Putting it Together, and last but CERTAINLY not least--the entire soundtrack to Funny Girl (People, Don't Rain on My Parade, I'm the Greatest Star, Sadie, Sadie, The Swan, etc.) Stylistics - Nope. Styx - My dad likes them, but they're not really my "bag".

But even looking back today, her 1979-1981 hits are STILL her best, either with Barry Gibb produced stuff, or caught up in the world of disco. Her older stuff's pretty good, but just don't listen to her post-1981 stuff a whole lot. No denying she's a living legend. Faves: Main Event/Fight No more tears Guilty Woman in love Stoney end Promises (LOVE it; one of 1981's best non-top 40's) You don't bring me flowers Evergreen What kind of fool Funny girl People Second hand rose The way we were Comin' in and out of your life My heart belongs to me Where you lead Sam you made the pants too long Love theme from Eyes of Laura Mars (Prisoner) He touched me My man I finally found someone Flim flam man Why did I choose you Songbird Memory Till I loved you Somewhere Kiss me in the rain (I don't THINK this was disco) Stylistics--Their music was so EARTHLY beautiful. One of the 70's best soul groups; Russell Thompkins had a SUPERIOR falsetto voice. Far from "mush" to me. Faves: You make me feel brand new (Goose bumps never fail me!) You are everything (until a few years ago, my fave; I still LOVE this) Betcha by golly wow I'm stone in love with you Rockin' roll baby (nice upbeat one!) Stone Temple Pilots-My first impression of them was from their first video "Sex Type Thing" in early '93. I thought, "I've heard that riff before, what song did they steal it from?" To this day, I can't place the song, but I SWEAR they took it from someone!! "Plush" I thought was a Pearl Jam rip-off. So they didn't exactly endear themselves to me for quite some time... When the second album came out, I thought they were getting better.. Then "Tiny Music" came out... A lot of people hated it, but I LOVED it! One of my top 10 favorite 90's albums! I never bought 4, but I liked "Sour Girl". Faves: Trippin On A Hole In A Paper Heart, Lady Picture Show, Love's Pop Suicide, And So I Know, Sour Girl, Interstate Love Song, Big Empty, Days Of The Week
Stray Cats-A really great band of great musicians. Rockabilly is HARD to play, and so is swing, which shows that Brian Setzer is an AWESOME guitarist! I like their hits, my fave being the ballad "I Won't Stand In Your Way"
Barbara Streisand-Not my style at all, however I like 2 songs.. The same ones you like! "Guilty" and "Stoney End"
Stylistics-I like this style of music. Not my favorite, but some of the songs were OK. My older sister used to have their 45's, she tells me I used to call them "The StyLipsticks" when I was a toddler.
Styx-I'm not big on arena rock, but I LOVE Styx!! I only have the Greatest Hits (the one with the '95 recording of "Lady"). I really want to get more stuff. I'm interested in checking out some of their early pre-Tommy Shaw albums, maybe the RCA "Best Of". I'll bet there's some gems to be found there! Tommy did some good solo stuff in the 80's, I have the "What If" album and "Girls With Guns" 45, and they're both great. Dennis's "Desert Moon" was a good song, but I've never heard any other solo stuff. I seem to recall J.Y. did a solo album as well. I never cared much for Tommy in Damn Yankees, or the early 90's Styx..

Man, this is a pretty good list. Wish I had more time but these nitwits with no lives keep releasing viruses that crash our computer systems. If I get my hands on one of them....anyway Stone Temple Pilots : Eh, they had a lot of potential that was wasted while Scott Weiland spent most of the last ten years in rehab or jail. Favorites: Interstate Love Song, Plush Stray Cats : A bright spot on the early 80's horizon. The retro rockabilly sound was great to hear amidst all the bland pop of the time. Thought they were cool with their pompadours during the height of the preppie movement. Favorites = Rock This Town, Stray Cat Strut, She's Sexy & 17, I Won't Stand In Your Way, Look at That Cadillac Barbra Streisand : Can't say that I'm a fan, and her reprehensible political blathering infuriates me. However, she does have a nice voice that I can handle in very tiny doses. Wonder if she regrets her disco phase? I sure do. Favorites = Evergreen, The Way We Were Stylistics : Love this group! Arguably the best of the 70's soul harmonizers. What a great falsetto the lead singer has! This is music for romance and I play it often. Have the Greatest Hits. Can't say enough good about it. Favorites = You Make Me Feel Brand New, You Are Everything, Stone in Love With You, Break Up To Make Up, Styx : I don't like them, mostly because of Dennis DeYoung's pomposity and the ridiculous Mr. Roboto opera theme he orchestrated much to the horror of other band members. If it had been just Tommy Shaw and the Pananzo (sp?) brothers and the bearded blond guy I'd like this band more. DeYoung just irritates me to no end. Talented guitars and drum work. Not real warm on arena rock I guess. Favorites = Renegade, Lady, Too Much Time On My Hands

Eh. Another off day today with this list for me.
Stone Temple Pilots - YUK. Plush was so overplayed on Headbangers Ball, and it isn't my style anyway.
Stray Cats - all the songs sound the same. I don't like any of them. Really didn't like the Brian Setzer Orchestra either.
Barbara Streisand - I respect her talent, but not her attitude. Favorites: Don't Rain On My Parade, Stoney End, Guilty
Stylistics - too mellow for me.
Styx - they're passable. Favorites: Too Much Time On My Hands, Lady, Come Sail Away - NOT anything from Mr. Roboto (wasted my money on that one). I also liked Desert Moon by Dennis DeYoung.

Stone Temple Pilots - This is a group I've just started to become familiar with, and what I've heard so far is pretty good. Favorites: Vasoline, Interstate Love Song.
Stray Cats - This group definitely stood out from the pack back in the early 80's, with a very unique retro sound. I really like the three songs you mentioned, but haven't heard any of their others.
Barbra Streisand - I'm not fond of the "diva" aspect of her personality, but there's no denying her talent. She does have a wonderful voice, and I like quite a few of her songs. Favorites: The Way We Were, Evergreen, Woman in Love, Guilty, What Kind of Fool, You Don't Bring Me Flowers (with Neil Diamond), Memory.
Stylistics - One of the premier soul groups of the early-to-mid 70's. I love the arrangements and harmonies - just an all-around great sound. Favorites: You Make Me Feel Brand New, You Are Everything, Betcha By Golly, Wow, People Make the World Go Round, Heavy Fallin' Out, Disco Baby.
Styx - I've always really enjoyed their music, and have never quite understood the critical lashing they've received. Favorites: Renegade, Lady, Lorelei, Blue Collar Man, Come Sail Away, The Grand Illusion, Fooling Yourself, Babe, The Best of Times, Too Much Time on My Hands, Sing for the Day.

Hey, how 'bout the Sex Pistols? Not that I'm a big fan, but I would like to read some opinions about them. Stone Temple Pilots--I have one of their cd's. Don't think I ever listened to it. LOL! I can't even think of how any of their songs go, although the titles that I've been reading here sound familiar. That Scott Weiland guy is pretty messed up, isn't he? Stray Cats--Love 'em. Really enjoyed their sound, and I find myself listening to them a lot even these days. Brian Setzer is quite talented. Faves: Pretty much everything. Barbra Streisand--Mixed feelings about her. She's definitely a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment world. Can't deny her talent. But I'm just not a real big fan of hers overall. She's made a few movies I enjoyed, and has had several songs I don't mind listening to occasionally. But she just seems a little too "high maintenance" for me. LOL! I'm usually a fan of more "down to earth" type people. But I did like "A Star is Born" and used to listen to the soundtrack all the time. And the "Guilty" album is ok, too. Stylistics--Not normally a big fan of this type of music, but for some reason, I love the Stylistics. Their songs meant a lot to me when I was a kid. Just thinking about that now makes me a little nostalgic. Might have to invest in a Hits CD sometime soon. Styx--Oh yeah! Lots of memories of them. Excellent band, great songs. Their "Behind the Music" on VH-1 was very interesting.

Stone Temple Pilots- Heard of them, but don''t know their music Stray Cats- Decent group. Rock This Town really brings you back to the '50s. Also like Stray Cat Strut and 17. Barbra Streisand- My wife loves her! She has a bunch of her albums, and I've taped a couple of her HBO concerts for her. Barbra has a huge amount of talent but an even bigger ego. Some of her work is quite good, but some is atrocious. (Did you ever see or hear the soundtrack for Yentl? ) Barbra actually has a song in my all time top 250: Woman In Love (written by Barry Gibb with the Bee Gees singing backup) Other faves: People, Second Hand Rose, Stony End, The Way We Were, Memory (from "Cats") Stylistics- My fave today! Love Russell Thompkins Jr.'s falsetto and Airon Love's baritone. Group took their name from an uncle's clothing store. Sounds are similar to the Delfonics and the Moments but they blow both of those groups away! Three songs in my all time top 250: Betcha By Golly Wow - top 100, You Make Me Feel Brand New, and You Are Everything. Other faves: Stone In Love With You, Break Up To Make Up, Rockin Roll Baby, Let's Put It All Together, Stop Look and Listen to Your Heart, You'll Never Get To Heaven If You Break My Heart. People Make The World Go Round Styx- I never listen to critics! I like them. They have a top 250 song also: Babe. Other faves: Come Sail Away, Lady, The Best of Times, Don't Let It End, Mr. Roboto

Favorites = Renegade, Lady, Too Much Time On My Hands You would think Weiland would learn from Layne Staley. I once knew a guy who was into alternative (REAL alternative-Thrill Kill Cult, Skinny Puppy, not U2), and asked him what he hated about groups like Styx. His reply was simply, "Domo ani gato, Mr Roboto." LOL!
