Hmmm...just finishing 10th grade. Most of the ballads I still don't like today, especially "On my own" (Sorry Kitty). Prob. Heart's best (but not really great) from their self titled '85 album. Corner is one of my lesser fave George Michael tunes (and that's saying a lot!) My faves back then were El DeBarge and the Jets. Still hold up all right with me today, but I can resist Jheri curls now LOL! ;D

Ah, the summer I finished college and embarked on my career as a grunt Nothin at all - I still preferred Heart's "Dog and Butterfly" era but this one was okay. Who's Johnny - I remember seeing "Short Circuit" with a bunch of friends, this song brings back some pleasant memories. Holding Back the Years - still a favourite and I loved the intricate vocals of this group. A Different corner - I must have missed this one. No One is to blame - ah, Howard Jones! I loved this song, as well as all of his other singles from this era. I Can't Wait - a quirky one hit wonder that had a really funky video. Live to Tell - I do like this ballad. I don't like everything the Material Girl has done, but I do like this one. Crush on You - oh God, I am tortured by this one - I remember the video unfortunately and can't listen to this anymore. There'll be Sad songs - I like this one. I think it suits Billy's voice and is a good ballad. On my own - intriguing blend of voices here, both of them can be annoying on their own, but blend pretty well together.

Finished 7th grade. A pretty good year. My best friend became my best friend that year, and we went to Florida, where I got a 2nd degree sunburn (but still a cool trip), groovin' on the Monkees reunion, and eagerly awaiting my first Monkees concert.
10) Although I wasn't absolutely fond of the spandex version of Heart, it's a good song. One of the better ones. At least it's not "All I Wanna Do" 9) I'm embarassed to admit this, but I didn't get this one until just about a year ago when I sat down and really listened to the lyrics. Still not one of my favorites. Much prefer Al's "Here's Johnny" 8) This was a great song. Lots of feeling in this one. 7) The first time I heard this one was in Florida. I was eagerly awaiting the new song, and remember going "that's it?" - I knew it was mediocre when my mom said she really liked it - I thought he did this one on his own, but it's a track on my Wham "Final" cd 6) Howard Jones is one of my top 10 favorite artists of all time - his music always had such a positive message - this is one of his best 5) This one was ok, but it wore out really fast 4) I was never into Madonna, but I liked this one - a nice break from the whole Like A Virgin thing - plus this one is in my vocal range 3) Loved the Jets - I was so torn when I voted in the first ever Kids Choice awards later that year - I had to choose between The Monkees, The Jets, and another good group that I can't think of right now - I have it on tape somewhere - anyway, I voted for The Monkees, and they won 2) I've mentioned the whole Billy Ocean/Roller Skating Wipe Out Curse before - I don't dig his music 1) Not a favorite - their vocal styles seemed to clash - it was kind of awkward

In general, I'm not as fond of Heart's later work as I am their 70's material, but 'Nothin' At All' is a good one. 'Holding Back the Years' is probably my favorite from this list. It has a nice jazzy feel to it.

I actually don't remember hearing it all that often on the radio back then - I heard 'The Edge of Heaven' a lot more.

That was a cute movie - I remember going to see it at the theater back in the day. I think Madonna's voice is really at its best on ballads such as 'Live to Tell', especially when she sings in the lower registers. Very thoughtful lyrics, also.

I got one of those at Nags Head, NC back in 1982, and it definitely put a damper on things. I would have liked to have seen that Monkees concert! I agree with you about 'A Different Corner' being mediocre. I've never understood why he selected that song to be one of the singles - there are better tracks on that album, IMO.

Hey Dawn! 1986 - Just past my limit of 1985. But this is the year that I'm starting to investigat, so I know some of these. On My Own is OK. I've always liked Patti LaBelle. But wouldn't call this more than OK. There'll Be Sad Songs. - This song just sounds "strange" to me - not bad -- just strange. -- Like maybe it was assembled too quickly. I dunno. No One Is To Blame - Fairly good middle-of-the road ballad., but nothing to write home about. Who's Johnny - I like this one. It's catchy. Good rhythm and arrangement.

YEESH! Stuff was getting bad already!
ONLY winner here, of course, is Heart. That is why classic rock stands.
El Debarge, Simply Red, the Jets and George Michael all on one chart! Pass the air sick bag!
Even Madonna's tune-that is my least fave of her big tunes.

Uh-oh, with the exception of Madonna and Howard Jones, I don't care for any of these.
Well, maybe add Simply Red.....
