Hey Dawn!! Happy Birthday!!! I really thought you were going to do 1968 today. ;D Good chart, including a top 250. 10. Sail On – Commodores Pretty good song 9. Good Times – Chic I like this, but it reminds me of several other songs. I always thought I was listening to something else. 8. I’ll Never Love This Way Again – Dionne Warwick OK, I guess 7. Lonesome Loser – Little River Band - Fine song. Underrated band 6. Sad Eyes – Robert John - Woo hoo! Top 250. I really like the way this one grows as you listen to it, culminating with that cool key change. 5. Lead Me On – Maxine Nightingale Barely remember it. 4. Don’t Bring Me Down – Electric Light Orchestra - Another good one from ELO 3. The Devil Went Down to Georgia – Charlie Daniels Band - Fine story/song. 2. After the Love Has Gone – Earth, Wind & Fire - Never really liked EW&F - except for this song, which I really like. 1. My Sharona – The Knack - Very catchy, well done, deservedly #1. But --- the next Beatles?? Uh--- No.

Hi Dawn - Happy Birthday, hope it's a good one.
10. Sail On - Pretty good Commodores
9. Good Times - More funky than disco, not bad.
8. I'll Never Love The Way Again - didn't like
7. Lonesome Loser - My favorite from LRB
6. Sad Eyes - Pretty good song
5. Lead Me On - ?
4. Don't Bring me Down - Classic ELO, one of my all-time top 5 from them
3. The Devil Went Down to Georgia - Great song from CDB. I saw Roy Clark & Jerry Reed do this song on a Hee Haw episode. The used guitars instead of fiddles, but it was great.
2. After the Love Has Gone - A great song from a great group.
1. My Sharona - Good song, not the next Beatles.

Hope you're having a great day! 2 weeks before my own birthday! My fave year of course, and this list is no exception! 10. One of their best! Have the Midnight Magic LP. 9. Still in the top 10! Roller disco! 8. This is simply beautiful--you can tell it's a Barry Manilow production. 7. Always loved this! 6. Ah...memories of just turning 10. This could have only hit #1 around this time, when disco was starting to cool off. 5. Another fine soulful ballad--far cry from "Started from". 4. Who here DOESN'T LOVE this? VROOOOOSH! 3. Another top winner! My own #2 of the time. 2. One more outstanding soul ballad. Super assistance from David Foster and Jay Graydon. 1. Some people were already starting to get sick of this, but it was my own #1 as well! Right up till my 10th birthday! (Then Sad Eyes took over)

10. Sail On – Commodores Never appreciated this country-flavored track when it was current. Now I really enjoy it. The lyrics make much more sense than when I was 11 9. Good Times – Chic I like it. Seems like every rapper had to go and sample from it though. "Clams on the half shell and roller skates" 8. I’ll Never Love This Way Again – Dionne Warwick Not fond of the song but Dionne sings her heart out here. 7. Lonesome Loser – Little River Band One of their best, along with Cool Change. I've got to listen to more of this Aussie band. 6. Sad Eyes – Robert John My voice doesn't get that high if I suck all the helium out of a balloon lol. Kinda cruel and heartless lyrics...pretty good song though. I could see how it would annoy some folks. 5. Lead Me On – Maxine Nightingale Liked "Right Back Where We Started From" better, this is a "chick" song 4. Don’t Bring Me Down – Electric Light Orchestra So many good memories of skating to this at the roller rink. Excellent tune! 3. The Devil Went Down to Georgia – Charlie Daniels Band Amazing fiddle work. This is an amusing little story song. I enjoy it. 2. After the Love Has Gone – Earth, Wind & Fire Very good as far as breakup songs go. Theres not much EWF that I don't like. 1. My Sharona – The Knack The song that single-handedly killed disco. I don't hold any grudges though, it's a good one. Oh...and happy birthday!

Dawn! Sail On--OK, but not my absolute favorite by them. Good Times--Catchy, fun song. I'll Never Love This Way Again--So-so.(Sorry Dionne fans). Lonesome Loser: I've always liked this one. Sad Eyes: I can't sing that high either! Lead Me On: Ditto. Smooth soul/pop song. Don't Bring Me Down: OH YEAH! Easily my favorite song on this chart. Devil Went Down To Georgia: The first time I heard the uncensored("SOB")version, I about choked on my Shamrock Shake! After The Love Has Gone: Smooth ballad. My Sharona: Power-pop classic.

I'm back In '79 - #5 ,#7 and #4 were added to my collection - #1 was added much, much later although I had (have) the LP 10.Great tune that I haven't heard since it was current - a shame. 9.Heard it lots back then and have it on a CD compilation of disco tunes. 8.Actually didn't mind this at all - pretty melody. Before all that psychic friends network business 7.Some great Pop / Rock from LRB. One of '79's best. 6.Always enjoyed it 5.Never heard it at the time - I was only familiar with Right Back Where We Started From in the 70's . Didn't hear this until I bought Volume 25 of Rhino's Have a Nice Day series in '96. 4.Love every second of it. There was a guy I knew in Grade 7 named Bruce and of course we all thought that's what Jeff was singing in the song so we use to tease him a bit but he was a great guy 3.Smokin' tune 2.Great track from EWF 1.I remember dancing to this(!) at one of our noon hour dances in Grade 7 thank God no pictures exist. The only time I actually went to one of them and ACTUALLY danced - still can't believe it!! LOVE this song.

I said it before, but it bears repeating..... Let's see.....almost 6. 10) Eh. It's ok. They have one I really like that's kind of this tempo and feel but I can never remember what it's called. 9) Love it! Funky beat, and is the mix for Rappers Delight! 8) Ew. No thanks. 7) It's ok. Prob my least favorite by them, but not bad. 6) Sad song. (Duh, I guess) 5) No thanks. 4) Love it! ELO Rocks! 3) I'm getting psyched for my concert...11 more days - this is usually his finale. After I leave here I gotta get some more sewing done or Charlie isn't going to have a gift. 2) I really never liked this one. Not a huge fan of EWF but this one I really don't like. 1) Good song, but got so sick of it. Love My Bologna though! Props to Doug Feiger, though, for getting Al his first record deal.

I'm a little late, but...HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAWN!!! Hope it was a good one! Sail On--Absolutely love it. A favorite Commodores song. A favorite song, period. Good Times--Sick to death of it. I'll Never Love this Way Again--Boring. Lonesome Loser--Good song. Love LRB. Sad Eyes--Not something that I'd seek out to listen to. Lead Me On--Always liked this one. Don't Bring Me Down--Lotsa memories of this--my husband loved ELO, so I heard them a lot back in the day. The Devil Went Down to Georgia--Cool song. Charlie Daniels is a great talent. After the Love Has Gone--Not fond of Earth Wind and Fire. Never cared for this. My Sharona---Love it. Never get tired of hearing it.

They had many hits, but never seemed to get much critical acclaim or press. ‘Sad Eyes’ is wonderful, I agree. I also like the way the song intensifies toward the end. I’m surprised we didn’t hear more from him after this song – it really sounded great. ‘After the Love Has Gone’ was a little different in style from most of their 70s hits, but of all their songs, it’s probably the one that holds up best today. The vocals are outstanding.

Thanks for the good wishes – it was a great birthday! ‘Good Times’ does have more of a funk groove than some of their other hits, I agree. It’s probably my favorite of theirs along with ‘I Want Your Love’. I can definitely picture Roy and Jerry doing ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia’. There were some great performances on that show over the years. I’m still not sure why the record companies chose to publicize the Knack with the “next Beatles” comparison. It might have created interest in the short run, but it created a lot of pressure also!

I always loved the line about the roller skates in ‘Good Times’, since I used to go to the roller rink so often when I was a kid. It’s an excellent roller disco song, I agree! That’s a good point about ‘I’ll Never Love This Way Again’. I’ve always liked Dionne’s vocals on it, and the song’s arrangement is wonderful. I agree that ‘Sad Eyes’ probably wouldn’t have been quite as successful if it had been released, say, a year earlier, when disco was in full swing. I remember just about everyone I knew loved it at the time, and it’s still a big favorite of mine.

Although I liked ‘Sail On’ at the time, like you, I’ve grown to appreciate it even more over the years since it was current, and it’s definitely one of my favorites of theirs. One of Lionel’s best with the Commodores, IMO. Robert John does hit some incredibly high notes in ‘Sad Eyes’, doesn’t he? Even I have trouble matching him on some of those notes, and I have a soprano voice! I’ve been told that Charlie Daniels taught himself the fiddle when he was in his 20s. I agree, his playing is nothing short of amazing on this one.

I’ve always liked it a lot. LOL about ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia’! That startled me the first time I heard it too! I remember back in the day, the stations here always played the “son of a gun” version – I didn’t hear the other version until much later.
